The other day I shared a peek at a new piece we have added to the bathroom
Something that has loads of character in each layer of
and lots of aqua, yellow and green paint chipping away to the weathered wood.
It wasn’t a purchase that was on the list when I stopped at the Re-Store.
It was more like one of those
It was more like one of those
‘What. is. that?!?!’
peeking out from behind something else
not on the list but must have purchases.
and it was definitely something that inspired a change in a room.

Priced at just around $25 for all that charm
-and all that chipping paint
and then add in that rusty old doorknob,
I decided it was a big time vintage bargain and loaded it up.

I have shared old doors that knocked my socks off before.
I guess I kind of have a thing for them.
Remember this green beauty in the cottage?

Ohh that color talks to me and it’s simple design is just perfect.
Some have glass knobs and some have old metal knobs like this one does.
I love using doors as a backdrop for photos
and you might remember seeing a peek of this one in my 4th of July post
When I find a new old door to love
I buy them because of their old patina, chippy goodness or their quirky character
not because they are perfect.
They have scuffs and dings and sometimes, some of the chipping paint
was actually really chipping off paint that didn’t stay when it was cleaned up and sealed

But I fell in love with that yellow and blue prettiness coming through on this door
and I was keeping fingers crossed that it would fit perfectly for the spot I was thinking.

The doorway layout in our bathroom is not ideal.
It’s just one of those things that come with an older house and that is in the ‘existing’ layout that you work with rather than make a whole heckuva lot of changes
that could lead to a whole lot of more issues.
We could open a wall up and do a pocket door- but nay- that would require a lot of work.
We could open a wall up and do a pocket door- but nay- that would require a lot of work.
Like moving plumbing and electrical.
No thank you.
Enter a vintage, worn paint, old wood and charm
and covered in loads of patina
sliding barn type door.
We put a double sliding door out in the cottage over the Summer
and it has worked out perfectly so when I saw that vintage goodness and that aqua and yellow paint
that melted my heart
and it has worked out perfectly so when I saw that vintage goodness and that aqua and yellow paint

I knew it was perfect for the bathroom doorway.
Now when you slide the door open- it opens the doorway all the way
rather than bumping into the armoire or sink
I am not a fan of that bulky dark hardware that some of the sliding doors have.
Aside from not being in love with the look, I also was not in love with the price of it.
Especially when doing the double sliding door at double the cost.
So, we had to come up with a work around that would do the job and fit a more subtle aesthetic.
I will share what we used and how we put it all together in a separate post
I am currently refreshing the paint on the walls in the bedroom
and it’s not looking photo shoot ready just yet. 😉

That door is lovely! What a beautyful color palette! I love old doors <3 Me an my husband were so lucky to take 3 out of his late grandmothers 100 year old house before it was demolished. One I use as decoration in my living room. It has lovely blue, grey, wooden and turqoise color palettes, one I have used to make a coffee table and the last one we made in to a desk in our "new" toilet/laundry room. If you check my blog you can read about it:) I will allso post about the coffee table and the laundry counter top soon 🙂

Oh Courtney, your d'or post réal l'y caught m'y attention.
I love the use of doors adding conversation to a room and the wall it leans on.
Have a door in my front room that I was able to salvage from my Grandparents home that was built over 200 years ago, and the door is original with the door knob and lock still in working order. Although it's a bit uneven for a functioning door, I love that I can use it much like yours for art in itself.
I so wish I had more space in my French cottage home to be able to move it about adding a bit of change, the wall space and layout it a bit limiting, but today you have inspired me to look about and see if it could be placed somewhere else adding holiday cheer to my rooms.
Love the natural fall harvest wreath hanging off the door, it's such a welcoming feel here, truly a harvest of beauty here.
Xoxo
