Something that I always look forward to doing during the holidays
is baking (and enjoying!)
some our favorite decadent holiday treats.
One of our favorites every year is a delicious, oh so fudgy treat
and this year- I mixed things up a bit and tried something new
and made these cookies with a little twist.
It all started with a recipe for fudge cookies
and went wild and crazy from there
and involved peanut butter cups, mint kisses & snicker bar bits
Sharing the recipe- but don’t hold me responsible
for the can’t stop nibbling that might result
😉
Fudge cookie recipe
{Pillsbury}
Ingredients
1 (12-oz.) pkg. (2 cups) semisweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup margarine or butter
1 (14-oz.) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
2 cups all purpose or unbleached flour
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts, if desired
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 oz. white chocolate baking bar or vanilla-flavored candy coating (almond bark)
1 teaspoon shortening or oil
Your choice extras- or invent your own option: 😉
Hershey’s Hugs or Mint Kisses
Reese’s Mini Peanut butter cups
Snicker bar bits
Heat oven to 350°F.
In saucepan, combine chocolate chips and margarine and heat while stirring over very low heat until chips are melted and smooth.
Mixture will be stiff- not creamy- then add the sweetened condensed milk and mix well.
In large bowl, combine the flour, nuts, chocolate mixture and vanilla and mix well.
Then shape 1 tablespoon dough around each candy by rolling in your hands
making sure to cover the candy completely
and then place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake the cookies at 350°F for 6 to 8 minutes
but make sure you do not over bake.
The cookies will be soft and appear shiny but will become firm as they cool
Remove from cookie sheets (carefully) and cool 15 minutes
{I interrupt this recipe to encourage you to try one of these after they cool enough to handle
but are warm and the candy is a bit gooey yet. Oh.my.}
Optional
While baking -combine baking bar and shortening in a small saucepan and cook while stirring over low heat until melted and smooth.
Drizzle over cooled cookies and let them stand until set.
Store in tightly covered container.
I placed each cookie into a paper liner
but you can always leave them just as they are.
These are definitely favorite cookies
and I honestly couldn’t recommend one candy center over the other
because they are all pretty darn amazing.
