A burst of sunshine and flowers = a burst of summer. And in the guest bedroom, it is all about a new look- with a quick change.
Recently, my friends at Shabby Chic reached out about a photography project- a few photos of some of their new bedding collection. I always love working with Rachel and the Shabby Chic team – I adore their romantic style and look. They sent over several bedding sets for styling and I got to work taking the photos for them.
Get the Look for Less
Something you have asked for many times is how to get the look you love- but for less. All of these pieces are now under $40 for a set – even the comforter and sham sets. You can find the links under each photo.
Floral Pattern Play
The first set of bedding was all about pretty pattern. It involved pink florals in a dainty detail- a very soft delicate look for a feminine bedroom. Shop the floral coverlet HERE
I paired it with blush ruffled sheets to play up the girlie feeling and look. Shop the ruffle sheets HERE
Crisp and Clean
Up next was crisp and clean. A soft shade of blue and crisp white comforter made the bedroom feel restful and quiet in comparison to the lively florals prints.
I love the serene feeling this combination created. Shop this white crochet set HERE and the Blue Ruffle Sheets HERE
Warm & Welcoming
Then there was that third combination. Blush ruffled sheets with the crisp white comforter- brought a different feeling with just that one change.
The pink instantly makes the bed feel much ‘warmer’ in contrast to the blue.
Bed Styling Tips
As you can see- just a simple change makes the bed and room feel different.
For a crisp and clean feeling- bring in the cooler colors like blues or faded greens. Even with the Same comforter on top- the blue tone in the sheets brings out the cooler tones in the white.
For a warmer space- bring in those warmer tones. Blush, creamy soft pale yellows or even a warm ivory will mellow the crisp white.
For something more playful and lively- pattern is the way to go. The ditsy floral really plays up the romantic feeling in the room and creates a beautiful layer on the bed.
Bedroom Styling Details
When styling/photographing anything for my blog or for client work- it really comes down to the details in the styling to support the featured element. In this case- the bedding. And the same idea or method to the madness works for styling the room for guests.
You want to create a welcoming and inviting feeling. So a few tips for how I like to do that?
Flowers
Of course. You know I am bringing those flowers in – they always instantly warm up a room and make it feel beautiful. These are a simple mix from the garden- camellia blooms with hellebore.
Bits
Little interesting details and bits- such as the truffle boxes are another way to make the room feel welcoming- and it also creates a casual kind of feeling. Like a room where you an kick off your shoes and plop down and cozy up for a nap.
Hats
Simple and summery in feeling, a few summer hats used as wall decor is a way to quietly inspire warm thoughts.
So there you have one bedroom with several looks showing just how easy it is to do a quick change with the bedding & colors- and change the whole feeling of the room. And this room has changed again since working on this project. After I finished the photography- the girls in the family ran off with all these bedding pieces for giving their own rooms a refresh- so stay tuned for what it is looking like now.
Stay tuned for an update on that furniture makeover- we are in between bleaching it again or leaving it in a more natural and applying the wax that I know may darken it. Which takes me back to maybe I should bleach again. I will share both the light wax and no wax versions – and answer all the questions about details next.
Happy Wednesday all.

I too love the window treatment. I guess my question to you courtney is does your husband love all the romantic looks in your home? My husband is a great guy who i love very much, but there is no way in heck i could have a home like yours. Plus i would never be able to keep white, or any pastel colors clean in our enviroment. I do envy you though it is so beautiful.

No he is definitely not into the romantic look (He is retired law enforcement) 🙂 This was in the guest bedroom for the styling-we don’t have this much pink or fru-fru in our bedroom. I actually prefer mostly neutral in the rest of the house and bedroom as far as colors go- thankfully, he doesn’t mind all the chandeliers and flowers haha.

Hi Courtney! Lovely post! Love the floral and blush. I recently received my smocked drapes that you have in that room.☺️before hanging them did you just simply iron them or throw them in the wash on delicate cycle and hang damp or slightly dry in the dryer? Yours hang nicely.
Courtney says
I washed them and partly dried and then hung them up to dry the rest of the way. Always seems to help the wrinkles from happening

Such relaxing Beauty! I must admit though, the bedside table has to be my favorite piece in the picture. Where could I find something like that?
Courtney says
Hi Candace- I found that piece at HomeGoods.
