I know you are probably thinking… what in the world is Courtney doing blogging about how to decorate with a Christmas garland? haha. I mean, hello usual suspects – mantel, front door, stairs- right? Of course- those are perfect for using a garland on but today it is more about thinking outside the box with garlands. And I am sharing 5 ways I have used garland to decorate that isn’t a staircase, mantel or front door.
Five Ideas for Decorating with Christmas Garland
Drape on a Mirror
Drape a garland over the top of a mirror for instant Christmas charm.
You can leave it as just garland- or dress it up with beads, glass garlands or lights.
Hang in a doorway
We simply tacked a bit of this garland to the beam in between the entry and the living room for a bit of Christmas cheer. Think of areas where you are not opening and closing doors for garlands that drape down like this one- or tack above the trim to make sure it is higher up away from the door.
On a Table or Sideboard
I know I share this one all the time- and all year long really. I love to dress up a table with a garland centerpiece. Again this can be something simple without added details – or you can dress it up with baubles and lights.
In a Cupboard
Simply tuck clippings of fresh or faux greens or you if using fresh garland- you can carefully clip a piece to place on shelves inside a cupboard for Christmas charm.
For a simple look- leave the greens unadorned or you can dress it up with citrus, nuts or other elements.
In an Urn
This is such a simple and easy way to use garland to dress up an urn or pot. For this look, I just used a garland and set it inside the pot to dress it up. Pull some of the greens out and away from the garland to drape on the outside of the top of the pot for a longer more loose look.

Hi Sandy,
It is from Balsam Hill – it doesn’t look like it is in stock this season but you might like the Capiz Star Garland as well for a similar glow. You can find it here: https://bit.ly/3gor9v5

Where do you get that beautiful Garland when you live in the tropics?
Courtney says
You can find fresh cedar garland online during the holidays and should be able to have it shipped most places. I have ordered from Home Depot/Lowes before and also florists can usually source for you and order one.
