There is just something about blue and white in the garden mingling with lush greens and flowers.
This chunky pot is a large antique pot that my grandfather gave me years ago. It was one of several that he had on his deck -they were pots that my great grandfather had shipped back from overseas when he was in the service. Over the years, he would gift one of the pots to family members for various occasions and when we bought our house- he brought this big one over for us as a housewarming gift. It has been in the front yard ever since and last weekend, I decided to move it to the lion fountain patio in the backyard. While I am contemplating what I will plant in it here- I grabbed some of the cut flowers in the house and filled it with those to enjoy for now and create a little vignette.
Blue & White Garden Elements
Though the blue colors on the pot above are more like blue and blue than blue and white- that pot is a perfect example of how adding blue to the garden creates a warm and welcoming feeling. Blue and white is easy to add to your garden- in big and in small ways.
Over the years, I have collected other random bits of blue and white to use as vases, planters and accents- but you can also easily add a pop of that beautiful color with pillows and upholstered pieces.
There is something about blue and white that instantly feels ‘fresh’ and crisp. Here are a few ideas for enjoying fresh blue & white garden style indoors and outdoors.
As a vase
This is a vintage lidded sugar pot- but it works perfectly as a vase. Think planter, pitcher or even a deep bowl for filling with flowers.
A classic look- gather up several sizes of pottery and group them together. Mix and mingle the scenery and patterns for a collected look.
Pop of pretty on the sideboard
This was a simple spring display years ago- to create the illusion of different heights- stack up some books or a stool to place pottery on in the back and take the lids off some of the ginger jars to fill withe flowers.
A rug with those bold beautiful blues underfoot is a perfect way to bring in another layer- and mix and mingle different pillows with blue accents as well.
Using a large old planter or pot like the one my grandfather gave me is a perfect way to create a big, bold and beautiful display wherever you place it. For cut flowers- simply place a pot with water inside for them to sit in.
There are so many ways to decorate and incorporate that pop of pretty in your garden – and with summer entertaining just around the corner- it is a perfect time to give your backyard a bit of a refresh with a little bit of blue and white.
