We have the thrifting bug pretty big over here and we like to make the rounds at our favorite stops usually every week. We have found a lot of great treasures but recently I have been all about the vintage frames. I will sort through the bins and boxes and stacks of frames to find the ones that speak to me. Mainly because I bought a charming vintage set of beautiful floral art prints that needed some charming vintage frames.
Vintage Frames and Beautiful Floral Art
I bumped into a set of mix and mingle reproduction floral art and fell in love. I had already been thinking about creating a wall display with lovely collected paintings and art from over the years. But often, they don’t all go together necessarily. So when I found the reproductions- I ordered several different sets and sizes to have a variety to choose from. Some arrived as prints, others as cardboard prints and some rolled up as a canvas. They absolutely did not disappoint. And so, the quest for the perfect vintage picture frames began. The best part? These are all inexpensive- often under $10. So you can create your perfect mingle and update your room on a dime.
Vintage Picture Frame Tips
I tend to go with what I love and what speaks to me when it comes to frames- but I do have a couple of tips and tricks that I have learned while collecting.
Look for the perfect size for your art.
Of course this is an easy one if you don’t want to include a mat or have to trim your artwork- finding the right size frame for your art is important. But if you want to mat it or trim it- you can simply find the frame that you love and adjust how the art fits it.
Look for the perfect patina.
I am in love with anything with lovely old patina. I recently brought home both this chunky black painted frame that was perfectly chippy and delightful. And also this vintage green dainty frame. I could not resist the charm of that vintage green color and old patina.
It is okay to mix and mingle.
Just like artwork- it doesn’t all have to be the same color or focus- and neither do the frames. The mingle keeps it interesting and you can create a cohesive look as you play with layout and remove anything that is just not working with the rest.
I placed this lovely little green art on the mantel next to the basket of blooms art for this snap. It isn’t staying here it is just to show you how sweet they do look together even though they are different in finishes.
