It has always been a thing but more recently has become a ‘trend’. There is that word again. It doesn’t have to be a bad thing- if you love the look, you love the look regardless if it is a trend that year. And one look I have loved for years is decorating with beautiful ribbons on Christmas trees.

Ribbons for Christmas Trees
It is such a simple thing- ribbons for a Christmas tree for a beautiful look? Perfection. From long and romantic to dainty to ribbons that dance in and out of the branches. There is no right or wrong way to add ribbons to your tree- it is pure preference. I love a tree dressed with just lights and ribbons- or dressed with all the ornaments and ribbons added. However you like to enjoy the ribbons- here are a couple tips and things to know.
Loose hand tied or Premade Ribbons
Yes, they sell premade ribbons for Christmas trees – so it is also an easy look to get. You can buy premade ribbons or tie your own. The ready to go ribbons are usually on the smaller size as far as width of ribbons but they are lovely and an easy add to the tree.
Tip: If you prefer a more whimsical, hand tied look- those are beautiful and easy to add too. I love to tie ribbons and sometimes, simply drape them without a bow on the branch.
A Ribbon Topper
For a topper- a long flowy ribbon tied with long gowns is perfection and makes such a beautiful statement. You can pair with other ribbons on the tree or simply add a ribbon topper all by itself if that is the look you love.
Tip: Bring in a beautiful long ribbon for a topper that makes a lovely statement.
Colors, Types and Styles of Ribbons

A quick change on this tree from gold and glimmering satin to icy blue satin ribbons made all the difference in how the tree felt.

You can easily change your ribbons to do the same- go for something with pattern like gingham or check for a bit more country charm. Floral or grosgrain for a bit more romance or traditional velvet or satin for elegance.

Tip: Choose your ribbons to mingle with the rest of the look you are going for. Patterns, solid, frayed edges or polished- anything goes.
Layers of Ribbons
Layered ribbons are a favorite look. Bring in another color, add some complimentary ribbons in different widths or with a different pattern. Bring in something with texture like a crochet ribbon, sheer like a chiffon or even vintage ribbons for a nostalgic touch. The possibilities are endless.

Tip: I generally avoid ribbons with wired edges because I like a free flowing wild and romantic kind of look. But of course, those wired ribbons make it easy to create picture perfect bows that hold their shape so they are a good choice for that look.
However you like to add ribbons to your tree or mantel- they are a beautiful touch.

So BEAUTIFUL!
I love ribbons too.
I’ve always used ribbon as my #1 must have for Christmas decorating, whether in our home or on packages. (nothing beats a beautifully wrapped gift with a hand-tied bow.) And thus, I don’t like the pre-fab bows. iMO they cheapen the look, Nonetheless, beautiful ribbon is definitely my weakness!
