Sunset table

This might be one of those random posts...
One that might have popped into my head while I was breathing in fresh coastal mountain
air and sinking my toes in the sand at the beach.

It involves a simple white shirt
wildflowers and candles
and a beautiful sunset in the coastal mountains

Our family has been enjoying a few days at the beach in Santa Cruz this week
If you have never been to Santa Cruz- it is a beautiful beach area here in Northern California
surrounded by gorgeous coastal mountains.
The mountains are filled with huge old redwoods and eucalyptus among many other things
and the forest is thick and lush.

The beach has the original Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for carnival fun
with games and rides and music
and of course,
 lots of sand for relaxing.
A little trivia~ part of the movie The Lost Boys was filmed on the boardwalk
and in the Santa Cruz area.

Since I love the beach, my husband loves the mountains and the kids love the boardwalk
it's pretty much perfect for us and is a favorite spot to getaway and re-charge

This trip, my daughter brought a friend along
and so while they have been having fun at the Boardwalk,
we~  my husband, middle guy and moi-
 have been pretty much
sitting.on.our.behinds
with our toes in the warm sand listening to the waves

Which is pretty much exactly what I like to be doing while I am there

In the evenings
the kids usually swim or work out
and my husband and I love to sit on the small patio outside our hotel room
and enjoy that amazing fresh coastal mountain air.

With the backdrop of the mountains and the sun shining through the trees as it set
it is a perfect spot for dining al fresco... and maybe for just a few photos
yes... I know
'You know you might be a design blogger if...'
You are inspired to blog where ever you are.
I used a few small plates, etc that we brought with us and whatever else I had on hand

A gauzy white shirt was a perfect tablecloth
and I set out a couple of the little candles that we had in the car

I gathered a few wildflowers & pieces of fern while on a walk for a little bit of color
and the roses were part of a bouquet that we picked up for someone special
while we were in town

It was simple but perfect for enjoying the beautiful evening and sunset
and after snapping a few photos we sat with the kids and enjoyed a special dessert.

Happy Wednesday

  3. Very pretty. It sounds like an awesome relaxing place to visit. Your pictures are very pretty I was wondering going through them if I should be impressed that you brought all that with you or that the hotel brought your meals out to you like that. Very cool to know I am not the only person who uses unusual things as photo props.

  14. You are so right about it being a beautiful area. My husband lived there during his teens and we lived in Santa Cruz for a year and in the Santa Cruz Mountains for another. Watching a sunset across the Pacific Ocean is a beauty that forever lingers on the soul. :)

  15. My husband and I have been trying to think of somewhere to go lately and Santa Cruz would be close enough for us to drive to. It looks beautiful. This just might be our next excursion.
    Thanks for the inspiration.
