Sometimes it is something little that inspires you
Maybe a swatch of fabric for new pillows or drapes
or a new to you thrift store chair that inspires a change
Or maybe it’s something that you brought home years ago
that you were inspired to move to a new spot.
I am a sucker for anything that wears original patina
especially if it involves chipping, peeling, worn. shabby, old paint.
This little stool definitely has all of the above.
It was found in an old out of the way antique/junk store
The type where there are beautiful polished and pretty antiques
mixed with junk and salvage supply
mixed with junk and salvage supply
and if you are like me- you spend most of your time sorting through boxes of old crusty stuff
instead of shopping those high-priced antiques.
I want to find the diamond in all the junk
instead of the diamond that has already been found and tinkered with.
So I spend most of the time in a store like that seeing what is hidden away
that catches my eye
This crusty dusty stool was one of those things.
Old stools are one of those things that I always seem to bring home.
Whether they are short or tall or wooden or metal
I just have a little bit of a love affair with them
One of my favorites is this old painted green stool that I shared here
It has been stacked in the corner
used as an extra seat and as a side table for the sofa
as well as just as a stool.
Old stools are small and unassuming
and sometimes are just what you need to fit a spot perfectly without taking up too much room
Yes, I admit that I might have a couple new old ones to share soon too.
They are addicting I tell you.
😉
This little white one is vintage-not really sure of the age
It is built with old chunky nails, thick wood, squared corners and simple details.
The paint is very worn and it is covered in scuff marks, dings and old staining
It even has some bubbled up areas on it probably from too much sun
I cleaned it up- scrubbing it with a little bit of bleach even
but most of the grunge stayed and is just a part of the stool at this point.
So I am embracing it’s character and flaws and enjoying it as it is.
I wonder where it was used previously and how it got all those bits of character
Favorites?
I love the tapered shape it has and even the chunk of wood
that is long missing on one corner.
It definitely has a very shabby rustic appeal that makes me happy
but I think it is pretty perfect in all it’s imperfections.
Happy Monday

Ooh, the stories it could share…. Luv those pieces. Like you I tend to stray to the rummaging instead of the pristine antique shops I want to find the treasure and discover it's unique bits..

Love this idea for extra side tables…what a great way to offer guests their very own no matter where they are seated. That each has its own charm is the bonus.

I am so with you on the addiction to old, chippy, crusty stools. I NEVER resist buying one when I see it! Both the green and white one are so fabulous…..feeling a little bit envious! Love all your photos too!

I like little stools, too! Yours are very pretty. I picked one up at a plant sale for $6 last spring, and I have enjoyed it so much, using it indoors and outside–they make good plant stands, too.

The stool is lovely, but I want to leap into your photos, get cozy on that sofa and drink the cup of tea!

It is adorable and you gave me an idea!! My dad made a small stool for my mother about 50+ years ago. It is small and she painted it yellow. She took that small stool through several moves and once she passed away I brought it home with me. It is in my laundry room now with a 50 lb. bag of flour sitting on it. I am going to take it out of hiding and give it a place of honor.

Love your little stools. I have one long one that I was told was used at a church camp. It takes up a lot of room but I love it under a window so I can use it as a window seat, and because of its length I can have plants and books on it too.

What are all the grey areas that we need to keep deleting?? I am going to have to unsubscribe to your beautiful blog, so annoying.
Courtney says
Not sure Debra- you are the first person who has said anything to me about any gray areas or anything like that. Not sure what they coud be. Where and when do they show up? Maybe it is some type of setting I can look into.
