A closer look- chest of drawers covered in French Cottage Charm

chippy painted French chest of drawers dresser

I fall for chippy painted charm again and again.
That pretty patina just pulls me in for a closer look.
And today- I am sharing a closer look at a  chippy painted charming
piece that I shared recently.

Last night we went to one of my favorite operas- Tosca.
I wore a simple black dress, a black wool coat and... red suede heels.
A bold choice maybe- but I was channeling my inner Dorothy from Wizard of Oz.
I just needed a few more sparkles on them. :)

But here is the thing about that outfit (and how it relates to a piece of furniture)
Black is simple. Timeless. Always a good choice for elegance and style.
And normally- I might choose black heels or nude heels.
But I was feeling a bit pizazzy.
And so, I went with the red suede.
And instantly that simple black on black outfit- looked a tad more fancy and regal.
Those red shoes took simple to another level.

And it is the same thing with furniture or fabrics or anything like that in a room.
Some things just speak volumes about style while being all quiet and pretty in the corner.

Maybe it is their patina- painted, well worn and well loved.
Or their brassy gold hardware that adds that touch of glam.

Maybe it is the curve of the drawers

Or the somewhat fancy legs that speak the most to you.

Whatever it is that speaks your language- adding a piece to a room that has an abundance of charm and a vintage 'attitude' is a game changer in setting the style.

I love this Rive Gauche chest from my collection with Soft Surroundings for all of the reasons above.
The chippy painted patina that looks like it was worn away over the years.
The elegant hardware with loads of intricate details
and the curvy drawers, apron and legs that add an old world style.
It is a perfect piece for a sideboard, behind a sofa or even tucked into a bedroom
And yes, this piece might have landed in a spot in the bedroom-
which is getting a bit of an autumn refresh- and I will be sharing more very soon.

You can see more about this piece here
and don't forget to order the Soft Surroundings catalog for up close views of all the beautiful pieces they have.
I am kind of loving how this piece adds the perfect amount of ruby red shoe style and charm.
What about you?

Happy Wednesday everyone.

  1. This is beautiful Courtney! I have a similar chest I use as a bedside table. I adore it for some of the same reasons you mentioned. It's all natural pine without knots so it's more refined and quiet but elegant due to it's curves and french country hardware. One of my favorite pieces of furniture.

  2. Morning Courtney, when I look at your chest of drawers I see simple elegance. It has held up through good times, bad times; it still has class, can hold it's head up high and say "Ta da, I am still here"! I think that is like us as people, no matter what, we are resilient, we bounce back, toss on our elegant shoes and go for it! Have a great day, thanks for your wonderful posts. I look forward to them each morning. Jody
