The little black dress…

Classic. Elegant. Gorgeous.

I have about 5 or 6 little black dresses…

I always think they are so fabulous, until I have to pick one to wear!

Then,

they are too tight in the all the wrong places-

or too tight in all the right places and it’s not appropriate!

too short,

too long,

too formal,

too informal…

you get the idea…

I have managed to narrow it down to 3 for tonight.

I’ll be adding in some classic black suede heels…

& a triple strand of pink pearls…

More on this soon… It is in San Francisco… But it’s nothing to do with the World Series… It’s a bit more formal!

Life with a teenager turned

‘My Own Man’

is quite interesting.

My oldest son is about turn 18.

So hard to believe!!

How could I be old enough to have a child that is 18?

When did that happen?

So that tiny baby…

now looks like this.

Since he recently graduated high school and is choosing to pursue his music -which is his passion- instead of going off to college or trade school right away…

He is kind of twiddling his thumbs a bit around here.

I posted earlier about him moving ‘out’ across the lawn.

He has moved out of the ‘house’ and into the guest cottage bedroom.

His first place…

When I offer thoughts or advice or instructions on things, he proceeds to tell me…

“Ma…I am my own man now…”

He is very focused on his band and they play shows and actually do get paid… they have been playing while in High School.

But he does need something to do with himself during the day… while the rest of the heavy metal music world sleeps.

A lot of his friends have moved out of the area or are in school and his girlfriend Kim is a senior in H.S. this year- so no one is available to do stuff with.

He is doing yard stuff for work but nothing really regular yet and has started applying for local jobs.

He has been doing a great job, working for hours at trimming, shaping and cleaning up all the plants in our yard.

Cullan commented the other day that our yard is going to look like Disneyland soon~ with topiary animals, elaborate shapes & not a leaf out of place.

He seems to be pretty bored…

He and Cullan used to jam together ( Cullan is a drummer and Ryan a guitarist)

and work out together all summer

but Cullan went back to school last week (10th grade!)

and since then,

Ryan has been a bit discombobulated…

My husband and I were talking about heading to Costco the other day and he perked up immediately upon hearing the plans the night before.

“Costco? SICK! (lingo for ‘awesome‘) So, What time are we leaving?”

My husband and I raised our eyebrows up right away… he wants to be around us?

‘Probably about 8 after dropping Ansley off at school.” I replied.

Now, know that usually, this musician sleeps until 10…

he was up and ready to go at 7:30!

After a day of shopping, and all those delicious samples,

we headed out on the 40 minute drive home.

On the way, he fell asleep in the backseat of the car.

His head all leaned over on his shoulder

and a little bit of a snore.

I told my husband to look at him…

It was just like when he was 2 years old and he would poop out

and sleep in his car seat.

His little curls and chubby cheeks~

Just precious!!

We laughed about it later that evening and about

how he asked what time we were going on our walk in the morning…

He actually wants to go with us!

Love it !

We know it’s not because we are his favorite people to ‘chill‘ with,

but it is different from the teenage years for sure when just sight of us was aggravating.

So about 10:30 that evening, he came into the house, made himself a sandwich and

stopped at our bedroom door and stood there for a minute…

“So, uh, guys…

What are we doing tomorrow?”

Smiles….

WHEN I GROW UP…

Just wanted to share this little artwork my daughter made in kindergarten.

Ms. Linda asked the kids to draw what they wanted to be when they grow up.

There were the usual- firemen, police officers, doctors, veterinarians, dentists, kung fu karate masters, etc…

My daughter drew this precious picture of herself being a mom.

Holding her babies in her arms with a big smile.

I thought it was the sweetest thing!

Being a mom IS the absolute greatest job in the world!

When she gave that little card to me, I thought it was so incredible that she thought so too!

LOVE it!

That same year, she also made this

charming little buttony, glitterey, beaded sequiny frame at the end of the school year.

Ms. Linda had taken pictures over the year of field trips or when you helped out in class and they picked a picture to make a frame for to give to the parents.

I remember this field trip distinctly.

We went to the pumpkin patch at the old train station.

We got to ride around on the train and see all the halloween decorations and what not that they had out for the season.

It was beautiful, fun and also absolutely FREEZING that day- out of the blue FREEZING.

No one was prepared and half the kids and parents were not dressed well for the occasion.

Nonetheless, we had a great time riding the train and getting in the mood for Halloween!

Seems like just yesterday when she was in kindergarten and

yet, she just celebrated her 12th birthday and is going into 7th grade.

I cannot believe my baby girl has grown so fast!

HAPPY GRADUATION RY!

I HAVEN’T BLOGGED IN AWHILE – NO EXCUSES BUT WANTED TO SHARE ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I HAVEN’T BEEN ON HERE RECENTLY.

MY OLDEST SON GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL LAST WEEK.

YAY!

AND AT THE SAME TIME

OMGOSH!

I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH MY FIRST BABY GRADUATING IS AFFECTING ME.

I KNOW IT’S CLICHE BUT, IT REALLY DOES SEEM LIKE YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS HOLDING MY FIRST NEWBORN BABY IN MY ARMS.

7LBS OF ADORABLENESS.

LONG FINGERS & BROWN HAIR THAT CURLED JUST A BIT AFTER SMOOTHING IT

TINY LITTLE FEET, DIMPLES & THE SWEETEST LITTLE FACE

HE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL AND I WAS SO IN LOVE FROM THE FIRST SECOND

HE HAS GROWN AND CHANGED SO MUCH IN THE PAST 17 YEARS.

HE IS TALL, WITH LONG WAVY HAIR AND A DEFINITE ‘MAN’ BUILD NOW.

HIS SMILE IS WIDE AND HE HAS A CONFIDANT AIR ABOUT HIM.

HE IS LEAD SINGER AND GUITARIST IN HIS BAND & I GET SO MUCH JOY OUT OF WATCHING HIM PERFORM

EVEN IF THE MUSIC TOOK SOME GETTING USED TO WHEN HE DECIDED TO SING METAL.

HIS LONG FINGERS NOW PLAY THE STRINGS ON HIS GUITAR

HIS HAIR IS LONG, CURLS AND IS HARD TO SMOOTH

HIS FEET ARE BIG, BUT HE HAS THOSE CHARMING DIMPLES AND SWEET FACE

WHEN HE SMILES SOMETIMES, I SEE THAT LITTLE 3 YEAR OLD BOY SMILING AT ME.

RACING OUT TO DRIVE HIS TOY CARS AROUND THE YARD

PLAYING WITH HIS LEGOS, DINOSAURS AND TONKA TRUCKS & LEARNING THE NAMES OF THE UNITED STATES

AND BEING SO PROUD OF HIMSELF WHEN HE KNEW THEM ALL

MY HEART IS SO FULL OF PRIDE AND I AM SO EXCITED FOR HIM TO BE STARTING HIS LIFE OUT IN THE WORLD.

DISCOVERING WHO HE IS.

TRAVELING.

LIVING HIS LIFE.

BECOMING WHO HE WANTS TO BE.

SO, IT IS WITH PRIDE AND JOY AND LOVE THAT I AM SHOUTING TO THE WORLD

“WAY TO GO!

I’M SO PROUD OF YOU!
