On the 5th day of the 12 trees of Christmas- we are all about those slim trees.
I have a couple of different styles of slimmer trees in the house- but none quite as slim as this pencil tree that I worked with over the summer- and I have to say how much I loved decorating this tree and creating a beautiful look on a smaller scaler.
One of the best things about those slim narrow trees? You can tuck them anywhere. They are perfect for apartments or smaller homes, small bedrooms and for adding at the end of the hallway which is one of my favorite places to use them. Because they are so slim- you can tuck them nearly anywhere.
Today I am sharing the first of 3 looks using this Balsam Hill Cathedral Fir- which is absolutely gorgeous in person- it has the same realistic shape and branches as the larger trees- just on a smaller scale.
Layering Beautiful Shades Of Reds & Whites
When decorating a slim tree- something to remember is that you don’t want to overwhelm the top of the tree with ‘heavy’ ornaments- and that doesn’t just mean the weight of them. Heavy in appearance or larger ornaments just don’t work as well at the top of a narrow tree- so use those on the bottom 2/3rds and tuck them into the branches. Then bring in your smaller ornaments and even some mini’s to create those layers.
I love to use a lot of simple round baubles in various sizes and sheens to create the bulk of the base of ornaments- I think it creates a charming cohesive look and feeling and sets the ‘layers’ and interest in the background for those unique ornaments to take center stage.
Bring in Unique Ornaments for a unique look
One of the things I love about this set of ornaments is the handmade feeling it has. The charming animals, pretty garlands and vintage inspired Scandinavian feeling is such a fun look.
One of my favorite ornaments are the snow globes that light up on their own- such a sweet touch.
