Thinking spring big time over here. So it is all about spring garden and outdoor living ideas, a new project in the bedroom and something simple.
We are installing a set of new doors in the bedroom. Only, they will be old doors if I can get away with it.
Truth be told I sketched about 1 dozen design ideas last week for a project I have in mind. One that involves lots of French doors, lots of natural light and a more dedicated dining room space-but that was only part of it. The other part involves new doors in the bedroom. Which, my husband was on board with- until I told him I was thinking those New doors- would actually be those Old Antique arched doors that I have in the barn right now. (remember these? This is from 2014 when I found them.)
I will just say he was not too amused. But I think the idea is growing on him. I am going to share the basic sketch of the new doors and where I want to put them – along with the patio plans on the blog this week- so stay tuned!
Roses, Roses & Roses
Remember when I said I was planting more cutting garden area this year? It is going to have a TON of roses in it. Usually I have ordered those specialty roses from a Heirloom Roses online- but a lot of the ones I want to add to the garden are sold out. So I did some searching and found several of them at Jackson & Perkins. AND-a Tip: I signed up for email and saved 10% on my order. They even have one of my favorite layers of dainty beauty roses in stock right now- Earth Angel. We added more of them last year so I am hoping to get a bunch of blooms this spring.
The To-Do List
That list just keeps getting longer and longer. I do realize it is partly because I keep adding things to it. But there have been a couple projects added simply because they need to get done. (the bathroom roof for example)
While we usually are fairly good at notching things off the list- it is always good to have a schedule written down with timelines and details to hopefully help keep things on track. Tomorrow my husband and I are sitting down to reorganize the list with priority projects first and timing to get them wrapped.
Ideas, Ideas, Ideas
The other morning, after an hour of coffee fueled inspiration and sketching- I sent my dad a 3 minute video showing the renovation plans I sketched and explaining it to him what I had in mind. I was very thorough- pointing out simple details or things I couldn’t figure out that I needed his professional opinion on (he is a contractor and builder) and I also talked very fast- cramming about 15 minutes of footage into 3.
He called me a few minutes later and basically said two things.
- Cut back on the coffee.
- Here are the practical things that need to be figured out- it could work but why not move the water heater while we are at it?
- Cut back on the coffee.
The Water Heater is a joke we have- because when we first moved into this house- the water heater was in the room that is now where our bathroom is. We moved it to the basement and the next day had to drain it in the basement and move it back up to where it is now because of a different code in our county than the county where he lives. It was supposed to be a quick job- that ate up the better part of two days. So- now we joke about it.
Tomato Soup & Sandwiches
We had a bowl of tomato soup and grilled cheese, tomato and avocado sandwiches for dinner the other day. It was ridiculously good- and so simple and easy to make. Not to mention the sandwiches would be delicious no matter how you decided to make them- with or without cheese, or avocado, etc. I will say though- if you have not ever made a ‘grown up’ grilled cheese sandwich (which is just a way to say one with veggies included) I highly recommend. Add mashed avocado, fresh tomato, and even a piece of crisp lettuce- and grill as you do any other cheese sandwich.
I will share a few recipes and ideas for some grilled veggie sandwiches soon- and for another delicious soup- this Mexican Corn Stew recipe is one of our favorites.
We are adding a few silkie chicks this spring. Sooner than we planned actually- because those 2 broody hens are still being broody. No matter how many times we bring them out of their box, take them to another part of the yard or try to distract them – they go right back. One of the ways they said it will work to break the broody cycle is to let them hatch a chick- and so, stay tuned.
On a side note- Bucket is not one of the broody girls, thankfully. I promised some info about why we call her Bucket- when they were little and more rambunctious, the goats knocked a treat bucket over and trapped her underneath it. It was lucky that we saw her while picking up the buckets pretty quickly after they knocked it over. So, this sweet silkie girl became known as simply ‘Bucket’ which has stayed. She is absolutely one of the sweetest chickens- I love to hold her everyday.
Create: This bold and Beautiful Terrazzo Inspired spring table idea is perfect for welcoming spring in a big way
Inspire: Collecting and organizing all rolled into one- this collection of dishes & How to Organize them is beyond pretty.
Bake: This Chocolate Banana Bread looks and sounds so good- it is going on the baking to-do list.
Coming your way
I did some ‘shopping’ this weekend- and have sourced some great pieces for the next post in our ‘Get the Look’ series- and keep sending those requests for the rooms or pieces you would like me to share looks for less sources for. Such a fun series to work on.
We are talking spring patio ideas– and I am sharing some of my favorite looks for the patio this spring.
The new sink is IN. I am hoping to finish the wall around it and get that up on the blog this week as well. And I didn’t forget about the living room furniture options /ideas – that is coming also.
Hope you are all staying safe and warm this weekend.
See you tomorrow.
