When it comes to autumn in the cottage- mantel decor ideas are on repeat right now. The beautiful dark bookcase wall backdrop is the perfect spot and I might be a bit obsessed with trying different looks out here for the season.
As I mentioned last week- I will be sharing mantels and tables in several ways over the next couple of weeks. And today- it is all about this harvest farmhouse inspired mantel styling complete with fallen leaves and apples from our trees.
Harvest Autumn Wreath & Arrangement
Full of cottage style charm – I was inspired to bring the Briarwood Cottage wreath and arrangement out to the cottage to decorate for the autumn season. I love the rose hips and golden leaves that bring such a beautiful welcoming warm look.
The arrangement was placed on the mantel for a little bit of beauty below the wreath. One thing I love about these arrangements is that they can easily move from mantel to table to shelf- to wherever you would like to bring in some seasonal beauty.
Mix Fresh & Faux
I am obsessed with mixing fresh and faux on a mantel- there is something about adding in just a few bits of fresh like pears that gives the look a whole new feeling. For this mantel- it was all about apples. We have an old apple orchard area on our property- with maybe about a half a dozen trees that produce apples even now. Most of those apples are enjoyed by the birds and deer as so many of them fall off before they are fully ripe. So, I simply wandered and gathered up about a few apples to show how just one thing like fruit instantly changes the look. Don’t be afraid to try different things and also take them away if you aren’t happy with them.
Bring in some Cozy Candles
I added a couple of tapers on the mantel and some faux LED flickering flame candles in the firebox- along with those candles in the lanterns. Since we are showing how easy it is to do a quick change for a whole new look here- I kept much of the accessories like those candles and the dried leaves in place from the previous mantel.
Add a couple wee heirloom pumpkins
Because- these pumpkins are SO DARN CUTE. This is the first year I have found mini heirloom pumpkins and I am obsessed with how adorable they are.
And a simple way to add a touch of autumn wherever you are decorating is to scatter some extra leaves below for a wind blown look. I should note that you don’t have to use real leaves- faux leaves are beautiful and will work perfectly.
Use what Inspires You
Use what you have on hand or what inspires you. Pomegranates, persimmons, apricots, etc. are all wonderful rosy or softer toned fruit to incorporate- or leave elements out completely. As you can see- both ways with or without have a unique charm. And if you don’t want to include leaves or other natural elements- that is okay too! Remember to use what inspires you to create your perfect look.
Coming your way with our autumn series- another mantel styling. I am super excited to show you the next look- all about glam and elegance- I hope you will love it as much as I do.

That is okay! Dark and moody isn’t for everyone. I do love the dark wall and bookcases- in person they are actually quite welcoming and old English style charming-which is somewhat how the cottage itself feels. A bit more masculine and moody. But again- everyone loves different things and that is what makes our homes all unique. 🙂
