Yesterday it was all about simple autumn.
Fresh greens, neutral pumpkins and little vignettes
that involved not much other than a pumpkin with a sprig of greenery on a stool.
But that simple, quiet side of autumn decor
is so yesterday.
Today, there is a little bit more romance in the air.
When you think of autumn…
you might think of bright oranges, rusty reds and pea greens.
Falling leaves
lots of raking
tartan plaids
bold and beautiful.
But you see, my neutral loving heart doesn’t really like to
follow the rules…
I crave seasonal decoration that fits right in with the rest of my house.
I don’t want to have to redecorate the house
to decorate for autumn.
I want autumn to be folded in to my home
like a fresh blueberry is to muffin mix.
Simply softly and gently mixed in.
And for me- that means the bold and beautiful
are mostly outside.
And the soft and shabby are
in.the.house.
Pale pinks
sage greens
white pumpkins
and
a pop of brassy vintage gold.
Seriously- does it get any better?
Such a great combination and if you have been perusing my blog for any length of time
you already know it is one of my favorites- and one that you will see over and over again.
White pumpkins – big, small and smaller
a few old books
3 little vases of flowers
and a sprinkling of acorns.
And I will let you in on a secret.
This soft and shabby and romantic sweet mantel
actually started in the kitchen.
See that bouquet right there?
I was playing with those gorgeous roses and fresh eucalyptus
and those pretty new blush wine stems
and
I just loved them mingling with the whites and marble
and berries on the cake.
So of course, I snapped a few photos.
And while I photographed them
they made me think of white pumpkins
and little blush glasses filled with flowers
acorns
faded old book pages
and then…
the mantel happened.
Inspiration is everywhere.

I totally "get it" I used a similar philosophy with my fall front porch…While I did grab that great silk wreath from the attic with the fall colors I stayed with "using whatcha got" ….and what I like. There is a practical reason too-It is difficult to locate, lift, haul and then remove all the natural fall features I once set up outdoors..the bales of hay, bundles of dry corn stalks, significant real pumpkins…I also try to spot ways to swap out some but not all of the fall when transitioning to wintery or Christmastime. Your soft, sweet calming décor is fabulous.

That sage makes my heart go pitter patter, especially in composition with the white pumpkins and palest of pinks. Beautiful.
