Oh so lovely touches of so called ‘granny chic’ are my thing over here right now. And since I am a grandma – I am embracing that side even more now. A favorite things that has been having a bit of a moment recently- charming ditsy floral lamp shades.

Vintage Cottage Floral Inspired
Thinking back to my childhood bedroom it was all about those layers of lovely. I had a canopy bed with a full canopy on top and the curtains on the sides. Then there were the pillows. I think I piled on as many as I could find from around the house to create that soft ‘squish’ to land in while on my bed. Because you know back then- everything happened seated on the bed. Homework. Chatting with friends, phone calls, writing in my diary, playing with our pets- you name it. The desk was largely unused and I wasn’t much one to sit on the floor unless I was building something.
I can remember when my mom and dad divorced and he was setting up bedrooms at his house for us. He was the ultimate original bargain hunter yard sale shopper and went around one weekend and found all the things my brother and I needed for our comfy bedrooms at his house. He picked up vintage furniture, blankets, curtains and even decor items like pretty little trinkets. And I can remember the vintage statuary lamps with old mini floral fabric shades and all the layers of pretty flower filled bedding – and of course, there were the oodles of vintage stuffed animals that he set on the bed to make it feel like home too. He didn’t realize that by filling my room with all that vintage- he was creating a monster when it came to shopping second hand and finding all the treasures. The result was a cozy, inviting bedroom that has the softest glow from the old lamps and instantly welcomed us. I have always been drawn to those layers of collected things in a home and though the layers may look a little different than a childhood bedroom- I am layering in decor even now.
Florals on repeat for lamps
A fun layer that is so easy to switch when you want a new look is your lamps. And lampshades are even easier. They are also ‘mood’ creators. Whether you go with something that softly filters to allow more light to come through, something that bounces light, something that simply creates that glow that is perfect for your reading chair, etc. The shade you choose plays a huge part in that.
In our bedroom, we have shades that are a thick paper. They don’t ‘glow’ like a fabric shade would- but they do have a gold lining that bounces and reflects the lights to softly light the room.
A quick change to a fabric shade and you can see just how different the room feels instantly.
And depending on the color and pattern you choose- you can really dress it up or make it feel even more your style.
This is the pink floral lamp shade.
I bought these shades for another room getting a refresh this spring but I love how much sweetness they add in our bedroom for the photos – stay tuned for where they land.
