Welcome September!
Pumpkins, colorful leaves, boots and crisp cool mornings on repeat. While we are hot hot hot here yet- and they say triple digit weather is coming agin this weekend- I am decorating for autumn even so. And when it comes to decorating- it is all about cozy and charming.
Autumn is a second spring when every leaf becomes a flower.

From natural touches like steps covered in pumpkins and mantels wearing a garland of golden leaves to inspired entertaining with twinkling trees and pumpkin centerpieces. I can’t get enough.
But can I let you in on a secret? I have already decorated 3 Christmas trees. One of them is up in the cottage right now. I kind of skipped all the autumn out there and went right to twinkling trees and fa-la-la-la-la.
But don’t worry- I am decorating for autumn in the cottage yet- just working ahead on Christmas a bit (and loving it!) So today is all about inspired autumn and getting the look.
One of the stylings that I did for my book involved one of my absolute favorite ways to incorporate all that autumn foliage into a table setting. And it works right on the mantel or island too. We are talking about foraging the yard and finding elements that you can bring inside for natural autumn touches.
Sharing a few favorites today- and if you are looking for some inspiration for decorating right now- don’t miss signing up for my FREE 7 Day guide to Inspired Autumn Decorating ideas.
Berry Branches
Because those trees with berries are a favorite thing. Though I love muted colors for autumn- sometimes I just want a pop of bold and beautiful. These branches were perfect. I clipped a few off a tree on our property and brought them inside to enjoy on the mantel. I mixed them with white roses that I had in the house along with a little bit of dried eucalyptus.
Tip: Clip wide spreading branches for a full effect- or clip several lengths of branches to allow some to spill out further.
Dried Hydrangeas
I am a big fan of hydrangeas and love to enjoy during the summer when they are blooming in abundance. I also love drying those hydrangeas and repurposing them for autumn. Think dusty mauves, whites, greens and antique rosy toned hydrangeas for autumn.
Gathered Grasses & Leaves
This arrangement happened one day while I was foraging our autumn yard to see if there were any blooms left to incorporate in a bouquet. I didn’t find much in bloom- but found several dried flowers and grasses that were perfect. I also added a few branches covered in oak leaves to bring in a bit of that rustic color.
Tip: Think outside the box with autumn floral arrangements. You don’t have to have fresh flowers – grasses, dried blooms, berries, branches dotted with leaves, etc. are all perfect for creating a gathered arrangement.
Natures autumn blooms
More ideas? Look to nature. Pinecones and acorns are perfect for sprinkling on the table or mantel or placing in a bowl or crate with pumpkins for a charming vignette.
Just a few simple and sweet ideas to add a natural touch of autumn to your home right now. Don’t miss the FREE 7 Day guide for some of my favorite ideas and decor for autumn.
Happy Thursday all.
