You know when you find something you love and you simply cannot bring it home fast enough? I will admit that it has happened to me many times. I tend to fall in love with all the things. Vintage misfit chairs, random tables, carved treasures, glass and china, loads of dainty linens, garden & patina covered everything and so on. Matter of fact, the things that I don’t fall in love with are… I am not sure I have too many to list. But I do have some things that I am always on the lookout for and for the past couple of years, I have been on the hunt for the perfect vintage English cottage floral chairs.
First up though- can we take a moment to appreciate these perfectly dried roses mingling with a couple of fresh ones? We have been in the triple digits for the past week and the heat wave is continuing-the roses have pretty much almost all dried on the plants in the garden. While I was out doing some deadheading, I clipped a few bunches of the dried roses to bring in and enjoy. As you can see, some fell apart pretty quickly while I was taking photos. But that is what I call a ‘beautiful mess’ so I kept taking photos.
English Cottage Floral Chairs
Random fact- would it surprise you to know that when I was first married- we bought a sofa that was covered in beautiful chintz floral goodness? It was All over floral much like these chairs. White background, pink cabbage roses and a whole lot of English country cottage charm. I have long had a love affair with flower covered furniture. And while I most recently have leaned towards neutral furniture with flower filled accents- I have always had dainty chairs and furniture covered in florals and so these chairs are not a surprise purchase at all.
Vintage Shopping
I have been looking for a pair of perfect flower covered chairs for awhile now. I have probably had an alert for them on marketplace for over 2 years. There were a lot of chairs that popped up that had flowers on them over that time. But they weren’t the right style. The right size. The right type of floral. You get my drift. But last week – I sat down to look at a message and randomly checked marketplace when there they were in the first scroll. I figured they would already be sold- but they had just been listed 45 minutes earlier. I messaged. I measured. and I set a time to come pick them up. just from the couple of photos- I knew it would be love.
Vintage Floral Chairs
When we picked up the chairs I instantly blurted out how darling they were and my husband knew it was over and just handed them the cash and loaded them up for me. I could hardly wait to get them home and into the house so my daughter cleansed them and we brought them inside.
Here they are in our bedroom- I haven’t styled the whole room around them yet but you can bet that is coming. I am in love with them. Every time I walk by – I mutter to myself about how much I love them.
They are a perfect dainty but comfy size. A perfectly charming cabbage floral fabric. And in absolutely perfect condition. They are vintage – Drexel Heritage from early 1990’s so not crazy vintage but vintage- but they look brand new. They were in a formal room where they were not used.
These charming chairs also fit my husband’s request for comfortable chairs that he could sink into- even if they are covered in roses. These are vintage Drexel Heritage and were $50 each.
You might remember that I had brought home some other chairs for this spot about a year ago. The problem with them was they were a bit oversized & I knew at the time we looked at them that it might be something that bothered me once home. I should have listened to myself. They fit the area but to me felt too large. I haven’t decided yet if I will sell those chairs or move them to another spot to enjoy- I do love the look of them and they definitely are comfortable.
English Country Makeover
Well now that I have found these sweet cabbage rose chairs- my plans for more English county charm are moving ahead. Stay tuned for some mood boards and ideas coming your way.

oh yes, never pass up the floral chairs!…like the floral print frenchy side chair sitting at the curb that fit perfectly into my back seat…as my husband cringed in the front seat! haha! Oh, but the beautiful worn gold patina on the wood… and the lovingly worn and ever so slightly faded floral fabric. sigh…love at first sight, as we do say. as you transition into the english country cottage look…i’m now heading into the frenchy/parisian/italian florentine patina of life. love seeing all of your beautiful acquisitions, courtney. It gives me “rescue inspiration” for all the tossed items retired from other’s likings. god bless, allison
