Happy New Year
Happy 2023 everyone!
I hope that you had a safe and happy New Years Eve. Ringing the New Year in always makes me feel quite reflective and inspired. Looking back at the year that was and looking ahead at a year waiting to become. I will delve more into the new year in my Reflections, Goals and Dreams post in the next week or so- today it is all about the weekend view.
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
If you follow along on instagram- you might have seen that we drove up into the mountains on Christmas Eve to bring presents to our daughter and her fiancé. Her fiancé had to work on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day and along with the weather that has been affecting all kinds of road conditions – they were not going to be able to come down and join for family Christmas celebrations. We decided to plan another day to get together with everyone to celebrate for a second Christmas- but wanted to see them on Christmas. You can find the video on my instagram- at French Country Cottage.
My husband dressed up as Santa and we were on a mission to show up at their door to surprise them. It was quite the surprise as they didn’t even know it was dad and thought it was some random weird guy who was convinced he was Santa Claus. haha.
Santa Baby
Of course, we had to surprise the boys and their families too- and so Santa had an encore. Juliette was not having anything to do with Santa but Enzo seemed okay with it- until we took Santa Photos at our house. So we got the classic crying baby with Santa photo for the baby book and then the Santa suit was put away until next year.
Christmas Day
We had planned to host Christmas at our house this year- but my oldest son thought it would be easier to have Christmas there since both the boys are close by and it would work better with the baby nap schedules. So, we packed up the food makings and basically made the usual Christmas chaos in his house. Between the babies presents and wrapping paper messes and the kitchen messes- it was a lot. We helped clean up before leaving but my son text the next evening and said ‘Never again. Your house for Christmas for the next 50 years.’ haha. I do think maybe he understands a bit more about how much work it is hosting now. We didn’t get too many photos of Christmas- it was a bit of a whirlwind. We did get several videos though and this screen grab of a video of me holding Enzo when my son put a Santa hat on me makes me look a bit odd- but Enzo is so cute so sharing it. haha.
House Chickens
We have had a couple of house chickens for over a month now. I don’t think they ever want to move back outside. Between laying by the fire and napping and enjoying special treats- they are a bit spoiled. They go out to the coop during the day and will move out at night in a different section to make sure no one is pecking at the yet fragile skin they have where their injuries were.
All that glitters
I decided I am going to get my grandma bling on this year and so, New Years Eve Boots…though since we stayed home as usual, my NYE outfit looked more like my snuggle and my cozy slippers by the fire.

i smiled at her. you finally realise we were right we have every year asked if you would like us to do it for you but you get saying no.

This is adorable. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a baby that didn’t cry that first year of meeting Santa. Haha.
It’s nice that your son recognized the scope of work to create dinner, presents, decorations and cleaning that goes into a major family holiday get-together.😊
