Old cupboards are perfect for displaying books, treasures or photos.
I have a vintage china cabinet that was my grandmothers and she gave it to me about 15 years ago
I was inspired by so many painted cupboards I have seen out there in design books or blogs
and I was especially inspired by the beautiful cupboard that Brooke Giannetti- Velvet and Linen –
has in her office.
Ohhh… I LOVE it!
or even fabrics and bits in the office.
So I grabbed a couple cans of chalk paint, put Pandora on my Ipod and painted away.
I wasn’t 100% loving how dark it was coming out with the first coat of paint
so I then layered another coat of paint on it again with Coco mixed with right off
the hardware store shelf White.
It created a very pale shabby grey… which I am loving!
and for the most part it doesn’t bother me.
I love that the doors open all the way ~ so many possibilities for displays.
the display inside and an antique baby basket filled with hydrangeas fit perfectly on the top.
I love the old curled darkened ruffled edges, worn corners and gilded pages showing.
I’m kind of loving where the cupboard where it is right now
but not sure it is staying there yet ~ I have another spot in mind too.
Things are always moving from room to room over here.
Hope you are having a fantastic long weekend!!
Beautiful piece! I love the library look of the hutch in the room. Thanks for the info on the paint layers. Linda
Oh how fabulous it looks now! Love the grey.

Courtney, I love it. It looks so good. That is the way chalk paint is supposed to do. It is to create imperfect worn old finishes like European antiques. So yours looks perfect.
pure and utter gorgeousness! Makes me want to run out and find some old cupboards to paint. Amazing as always Courtney!

What a great cabinet, Courtney! Love the colors! Your chairs look wonderful in front of them, too. Love the basket with flowers on top ~ such a nice touch and it fills that area between the cabinet top and ceiling.
It is absolutley fabulous!! And so is your photography!!!
Could you tell what brand of chalk paint you used? It looks very lovely!
That cabinet looks gorgeous with those books inside.I love the soft look of the paint.

I think Brooke's office is so lovely, and I love where it is located in her house. I know she will have something equally pretty @ Patina Farm.

RJ

Mmmm, this looks magazine worthy.
This is nothing less than fabulous! I love that study from Patina too! You've done a wonderful job styling. It's all so pretty to look at.
Fantastic!! I love the cupboard itself. You do such beautiful things.
Love your beautiful cupboard and how it turned out with the chalk paint. They way you displayed your books and your daughter's project gives it a classic feel.
Love it!

Love Love Love it!! What a beautiful piece and I love the display inside of it too. I've used Coco on quite a few pieces in my house but never thought to mix a little white in it. Hummm… going to have to find a piece to try that on:)
How gorgeous Courtney! Your house is so beautiful! Love the finish on this.
Sherry
Beautiful!! What type of beadboard did you use on your walls and where did you get it? Thanks
Courtney, this is absolutely gorgeous. I love it just the way it is and wouldn't change anything. I do like the way the paint comes out a little uneven. I think this adds to the "aged" feel of a piece. Too even and perfect to me moves it further away from unique and old. Great work. -K
Been painting some projects with chalk paint lately, but haven't tried Coco. It looks great and will have to give it a try.
Courtney,
It looks wonderful with the coco paint (it's one of my favorite colors)…thank you for sharing it with us at my Nifty Thrifty Tuesday party.
Blessings,
Linda
You must have a huge house, Courtney! Each piece of furniture you have in the rooms is so utterly amazing – and big! Once again, the photos you shared are totally magazine worthy, girlie! 🙂
xoxo laurie
So beautiful Courtney! I have an old hutch (it's HUGE) and I've been dying to paint it but am afraid of taking on such a big project. How long did it take you?
I reeeeally love it!!
What a gorgeous piece! I always love to see what you have been up to, such a talent you are! That piece looks heavy! I can't believe you are able to move it around (I'm assuming it's not just you moving it 🙂 ) Love it!
~Shanon
Courtney, I love this! It looks like a timeworn finish! You did an amazing job; it's gorgeous!
I love how your cupboard turned out especially filled with all those books….Beautiful!!!

I want to paint our ugly oak built in our family room. I was thinking white, but I really like the color yours is. Maybe I will give it a try.

I like how that turned out! I can't wait to use some chalk paint myself:) I really like how that looks with the doors all open like that! And the fact that you can change it up so often for a whole new look. Great piece and GREAT JOB!
Great piece! I love how you have the spines of the books facing in… seeing the pages exposed gives a lot softer feel! VERY CUTE

That's yours!!! I saw it on Pinterest and repinned it because it was so beautiful! I'll have to go check to see if it links back to your blog like it's supposed to. It's FABULOUS! That needs to be in a magazine…
Cindy
You know what, it's good you put a watermark on it, because it doesn't link to your blog… i'm gonna go but your blog address with it right now!
Cindy
Ok, i was wrong, your blog address doesn't show up in the top right corner, but if i click on the picture, it brings me here…
I'm clueless i guess…

Just catching up on some posts I've missed. This turned out so beautiful! I'm itching to paint a china cabinet at my house. You may have just given me the push I needed. That blue/gray color is gorgeous. I do love the way the doors open on your cabinet, and I love how you've styled the shelves. I also enjoyed seeing all of those wonderful bathroom inspiration pix. laurie
It's amazing how a uninspiring piece of furniture can be totally tranformed with chalk paint. Your cabinet looks beautiful! If you prime the piece first, either with primer or shellac, you will find that the chalk paint is not streaky at all. Great work!
The cabinet is beautiful, Courtney! Thank you for sharing your creativity at Potpourri Friday!
Love your cabinet… Just lovely….I also love Annie Sloan Chalk Paint! Great Job….
