Casual gatherings are some of my favorites.
While I love the details and elements that go into setting a more formal table with pretty dishes & elegant stemware – there is something so welcoming about a gathering that is relaxed.
Recently, I created a bohemian style gathering for HomeGoods and thought I would share a few of those style tips here as well.
#1. Think Relaxed
This is a big part of a boho style table. It is all about being relaxed and informal. No fancy rules or dress required- and no need for formality on the table. Focus on creating a setting that welcomes your guests to feel relaxed and welcomed to simply enjoy rather than worrying about table rules.
#2. Layer rugs
Gather them alllllll up. This is about creating a base for your table and your pillows and a space that encourages guests to slip their shoes off and get cozy.
I used 4 rugs for this area- you can use one large rug or bring out a couple in various sizes. Simply layer them to create a ‘base’ for your table and seating area.
#3. Pillows on repeat
Lots of pillows to sink into is essential. They don’t have to match -you can mix and mingle patterns, styles, sizes to create your own look.
#4. Table style
I used a pallet converted into a table here- but you can just as easily bring a coffee table, bench, wood stump, or low small stools out to play. And if you want to create a low pallet table like this one- stay tuned for a simple diy tutorial coming your way.
#5. Mix and mingle
Don’t worry about matching flatware, plates, glasses, linens etc. Mingle your vintage silver with modern golds- gather up a few different napkins and grab your everyday dishes to serve.
Informal and casual is the look- not the perfectly placed elements lined up just so.
#6. Baskets of blankets
I always like to have a basket of blankets waiting in case guests get a bit of a chill and want to wrap up. Just set it off to the side- or in a separate entertaining area for easy grabbing.

Happy Monday all!

So pretty! Something else I love about the casual entertaining style is that there's no need to iron those beautiful linen napkins! 🙂
