I have a couple of these wee little darlings sitting around.
So dainty.
Crusty, chippy, peely paint.
Worn old finishes & character filled details.
This particular doll dresser/chest of drawers
was found in an antique store probably about 6-7 years ago.
I walked in and saw it sitting there atop a chippy table,
drawers opened with linens draped out of them.
I immediately LOVED it’s little square wooden knobs and petite size…
and the metal ornamentation on the top drawer,
and the detailed little feet
and the chippy, crusty finish to the paint and...
the drawers were lined in a sweet pink print paper, too!
It was instant love-
but not with the price tag!
So, I rubbed it, opened the drawers, admired it’s peeling paint and then
turned around and left…but kept thinking about it…
I searched on ebay thinking perhaps I would find one at a better price than our
over-priced California antique stores…
and as I researched about doll dressers,
I became somewhat fascinated with the design potential of them.
They are fantastic as little stands next to a chair for your cup of coffee or some books
or placed on top of a dresser for storing jewelry.
I found that for one the size of the one I loved,
the price was actually fairly reasonable
and though I searched,
I couldn’t find another one similar enough to the one that stole my heart to buy it…
So, I gave up looking for a bit- kicking myself for letting it get away.
About a year later,
I went into a different antique store in a neighboring city and
incredibly
found a little doll dresser sitting on a table…
with things draping out of the drawers…
My heart started racing as I stared at it in disbelief!
Could it be the same dresser?
With all those same little details and the charm I loved?
The woman running the store was the same dealer from the other space and she now had her own store and the price was dropped to something I was okay with!
I bought it right away, brought it home and have LOVED it ever since!
Something you may not know-
I have a little antique doll collection.
I know… A LOT of people are afraid of them… and think they are c.r.e.e.p.y.
I understand… I don’t love all antique dolls…
but, I do love so many things about them that it would have to be in a separate post!
So, that might be one of the reasons why I tend to find myself drawn to antique doll furniture & clothing.
So now this darling little doll chest of drawers sits under the table next to my side of the bed.
It holds papers, cables for the computer, little treasures and trinkets and bits
that need to be put somewhere…
When ever I look at it I am reminded of how I found it again after thinking I missed out and how it was meant to come home with me.
LOVE it!!

That is the cutest thing! Amazing how you got it too. I love the square knobs. All the antique shops/malls here are way overpriced so I don't get to look locally for a lot. No good Salvation Army or Goodwill like I have seen elsewhere. Beautiful piece!! Thanks for stopping by:-)

What a great story to go along with that beautiful doll dresser! This gives me some great ideas because my daughter has antique dolls that are currently sitting on a shelf in her closet and I'm not sure what to do with them. This might just be the solution for when she is a little bit older and won't love them to death! They totally creep my husband out (I laughed when you said that) so this would make him happy too! Thanks for the great idea and inspiration,
Vanessa

Dear Courtney – This purchase was so obviously 'meant to be'! Great story. I own one antique doll – Ruthie – who originally was my great-aunt's, then my grandmother's who gave it to my Mum when she passed and finally she is in my possession. I LOVE HER! Seriously! I think it's because of her history. She has broken fingers and needs some work. My family think Ruthie is very creepy and my husband always tells me he can see her flying around through the house at night! I would love to see your collection in a future post. Have a great day!
