Oh how I love old artwork. Landscapes full of charm and beauty- and of course, animals grazing or enjoying nature. A capture with natural beauty and inspired moments. I have long had an affair with old pastoral landscape art. Whether it is vintage and inside an old frame- just a print that is tacked to the wall. I prefer vintage but am not picky and reproductions are beautiful as well.
Today we are talking about French Country Pastoral Landscape art and a few favorites that I found while shopping recently. You can bet that some of these went right into my cart too.
French Country Pastoral Art
I have several collected pieces of French country landscape artwork on display in the house. From this tiny one in the cottage kitchen to the larger one in the bedroom. You can see more in the cottage HERE
I can’t seem to pass one up if I bump into it in a thrift store or tag sale. But I do have a few things that ‘speak’ to me more than others.
What I look For
The colors: I love the summer and autumn captures. The warmth in the golden fields and colorful autumn trees speak to me.
The subject: Would you believe that I actually have 2 pieces of artwork that are 2 different sizes – found at 2 different times years apart- but are actually the same print? I like what I like I suppose. This one is full of cows grazing and by a watering hole. I do believe it might be the same print that I have on the tv artwork screen saver in the bedroom as well- it says it is Yellowstone.
The size: I love big and beautiful- but to be honest, smaller scale is easier to tuck in anywhere. I will bring home those oversized beauties for places like above the fireplace- otherwise, you will find lots of artwork ranging from small to medium on repeat.
Where to display
On the wall is the first thought of course- but what I love about the smaller prints is that you can think outside the box and display in a lot of different places.
Of course, on the wall is a given- place them on the staircase wall for interest, in the bathroom for a pretty collected look and in the kitchen is a popular place right now it seems.
I also love them simply propped on shelves inside cupboards- or outside cupboards. Grouped with others is a beautiful look- and try some old (or reproduction) florals, sketches and oil paintings mixed in as well. There are so many possibilities- just try them in several places to find your perfect spot.
Get the Look
The two reproductions above arrived yesterday and today – and they are so darling. I haven’t placed them in their spots just yet-just set them here for a snap but stay tuned.
You can find them HERE and HERE. Since one is already sold out- I am linking a few beauties to get the look below- and most of them are under $20 so a great price – and yes, ordering a couple more of those too. *affiliate links
