It is that time of year when flowers are on a bit of vacation instead of growing in the garden. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a beautiful blooming bouquet in the house. Today for our Friday post- I thought I would share the easy breakdown of this sweet cottage style arrangement from my flower book In Bloom. (currently just $28 on sale)

Trader Joe’s Flower Arrangement
We love Trader’s for alllllll the flowers but you can always take this arrangement as inspiration to any grocery store, farmers market, etc and choose flowers there.

Pretty Cottage Style Flower Arrangement
For this simple and sweet cottage style flower arrangement – we picked up just a couple of flowers.

- Stock Flowers– One of the most undervalued flowers in my opinion- stock has such a lovely scent and the prettiest blooms and is very reasonably priced. A favorite for me to use whenever I find them- I bring home all the colors that I love but the peachy pinks, shades of white and purples are my go to.
- Mini Garden Spray Roses– Another undervalued flower- those bunches of garden spray roses are such sweet little blooms. They are perfect for clipping into several sections or using as a single stem- they have a whole lot of flowers on each stem so they are wonderful fillers too.
- Sweet Peas– I used sweet peas here- you can usually find Japanese Sweet Pea varieties at the markets though these are from our property. If you can’t find sweet peas- look for something that has a willowy type stem that drapes. Or you can simply pick up a green that does similar like the loose seeded eucalyptus varieties.

Create your Flower Arrangement
It is so simple really- you just start playing with the flowers and placing each one until you get an arrangement you are happy with. I usually start with the sturdy stems- so the roses here. Then I tuck in the wild and wooly vining flowers- in this case, the sweet pea. Then add in some of the stock to fill in the arrangement- and create some height. Leave the stock cut a bit longer to add some drama and personality.

This arrangement landed in a simple mason jar- but you can always create one that is bigger or smaller based on the size of your vessel and the amount of flowers you bring home.
Don’t be afraid to substitute the types of flowers that speak to you. If you don’t love stock or spray roses,etc- and prefer something more sunshine yellow- daffodils, tulips and other spring bulb flowers are usually in good stocks at the stores this time of year and can create a lovely little arrangement too. Or anything you fall in love with is perfect.
