I mentioned a recent thrifted chair when sharing another piece last week- and yes, indeed, this one is a cutie patootie. It is a little different than my usual but after enjoying it in the house for a bit- I can say I absolutely love it and it fits in so perfectly it is crazy. Today I am sharing a peek at this darling vintage tufted barrel chair that has a little pizzazz and a whole lot of character.

Vintage Tufted Barrel Chair
I know this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea kind of chair but the minute I saw it, I paused and took a closer look. Something you may not know about me, I have a thing for a vintage gold chair. I actually had one probably 15 years ago and my daughter used it in her room for awhile before it started to get a little ‘too’ beyond even for vintage. I haven’t necessarily been on the hunt for another, but this one said a big old Hello to me the minute I saw it.
Tufted Barrel Style Chair
A barrel chair is a chair with a rounded back- like a barrel in the back shape. It is a classic style that can be reinvented over and over again. One of the things I love about this one- the size. I mentioned before that I am not a fan of large, oversized or deep furniture. I just don’t like a chair if it is too big- even if it is comfy to most. This chair is a perfect dainty size that just fits anywhere.

Then there is the tufting. It has deep tufts and lots of personality. Of course, we have to talk about the fabric. It is a little bit of a tad shiny in some light I will admit- but it is a vintage brocade type fabric (kind of reminds me of a mattress fabric pattern lol ) in a floral pattern in a soft muted gold color with dainty pink flowers and green vines.

And it has dainty little Frenchie legs. It is in excellent condition – I am not sure it was used much over the years really- we didn’t find much wear or any stains or smells. Thinking it will be moving a few spots for some more photos but currently, it is sitting in the living room and the soft gold mingles so well.

I am not sure of the age but the tag indicates it was made here in California by a company that went out of business in the 60’s so who knows. It is definitely a little more on the modern side but I think it is darling. And my photographer eye sees it making magic in an outdoor photo shoot. For $50- it was a bargain for vintage photo shoots and enjoying in my opinion.

I love it!
Love the barrel chair! It looks like it came out of a parlor or reading room in the 1940s or 50s. So much you can do to style with it. Great find courtney!
I was thinking around that time too. It is such a pretty find!
What a stunner ! That tudting! 😍
Tufting! The print is very faint on here so hard to write…
The tufting is so good!❤️
i love it!!! i have a “big pop of sunshine” in my living room in sofa size, very similar to your chair. also a more modern vintage piece found at a flea mkt for $125. carved camel back, lots of tufts, and carved lions feet….ooohhh lala!! happy thrifting!! Ally
love it. I love Chairs. I would love a room just full of chairs and books. I would be so happy 😁
My kind of chair- tufted and welcoming!
Looking forward to seeing you move it about throughout your home, what a lovely chair.
I love your new chair, it is a great find with so much charm.
She is a beauty. It mingles so nicely with the sconce, table and tea set that it looks like it was made as a set. PERSONALLY, I would have passed on this find due to the fear I have of thrifted fabric furniiture. If I buy a piece with FABRIC, I always recover the piece because of my fear of critters and such. How do you deal with that? How do you clean these pieces? Maybe a blog post on the subject.
Im glad you recued it. It’s beautiful and inviting. Now i want one!
What a beautiful Chair! I had an Ivory Damask Rocking Chair just like that one. It was the most comfortable chair I ever owed and I miss it dearly. I hope to replace it someday with any luck. You find the best treasures for your home, it’s encouraging!
You always find the best Stuff! I say stuff but I mean beautiful furniture, dishes, textiles, etc. I love this chair! I agree, there is something about a gold chair and yours is very charming. Another great score courtney!
