Spring sunshine and all the spring things are just around the corner. We have been sitting with our chickens for a bit each afternoon to soak up the warm sun, the garden has a lot of peonies popping up and our camellia is blooming away. And next week, we are looking at temperatures in the 80’s here -which is pretty warm for us this time of year honestly. But I am always a bit giddy when spring starts to pop up and it usually inspires me to freshen up the house. Today we are in the kitchen with some easy kitchen refresh ideas.
Spring Kitchen
Beautiful Blooms

Of course beautiful blooms will give you a burst of freshness and spring sunshine- so that is my number one way to instantly make your kitchen feel more refreshed. You don’t need to buy expensive flower shop flowers or specialty flowers- simply shop the grocery store for seasonal flowers and bring a bunch or two home for a quick update that is inexpensive.
Potted Herbs
I am love little potted herbs and a few of them on the windowsill or island will instantly warm up your kitchen and make it feel more spring like.

Under Sink Curtains

I added curtains under the sink when we had an issue with the boards while renovating. I will admit, I miss the cupboard doors but I don’t hate the curtains. I found inexpensive pinch pleat curtains on Amazon and a dainty little brass rod and they are full of farmhouse charm.
Cafe Curtains on Windows
Those same curtains are lovely on the windows. I added cafe curtains to the window above the sink and the other window that looks out over the porch.

A Fresh coat of paint
Okay this one is a little more involved but a fresh coat of paint does wonders in any room really. I am a big fan of paints that bounce light so instead of using flat or eggshell finishes, I most often go for a semi-gloss even on the ceiling. I generally wipe down the walls and then refresh the paint with the same color and voila- instant freshness.
Restyle Open Shelves

There are a lot of shelves in our kitchen that admittedly, I don’t usually use in day to day uses. Aka- they are mainly decor or hold extras for styling, etc. So this is something that can really make a difference in how your kitchen feels. A couple tips- go through the cookbook stack and donate the ones you don’t use. Take stock of the extra stacks of plates, pitchers and bowls that are on the shelf. Sort through spices and toss expired ones. Etc.
Change your island decor

If you have an island that is- think about changing the decor with the season. I usually have baskets or copper on my shelves- most recently it has been baskets as I find they give me a lot of breathing room in decor. But copper does speak to me too and I will use it either on the island or behind the range.

I am eyeing making some bigger changes in the kitchen this year but for now decor changes will do.
