Home is our haven more than ever right now.
And while a lot of us are shopping the house to see what inspires us instead of shopping the store- and rearranging rooms and furniture for a fresh feeling (maybe more than once) I am also thinking about ways to freshen the house outside. And we are starting with the little cottage front porch and door.
It is looking quite a bit different already- we have removed a whole lot of wild blackberries that were basically taking over the lawn at this point. My husband has been enjoying clearing some previously natural and unused areas of our property- until he got attacked by blackberries and poison oak. So, taking a break while that clears up and we are looking at simple paint updates for the front porch.
So, staring with the cottage- and looking at that wee porch and front door and thinking of which direction to go when painting it.
Which means daydreaming a bit about doors and color ideas. And today it is allllllll about 20 looks and colors that are inspiring me for the front door.
Photos by me unless otherwise noted- and most were taken in Europe.
🙂
WHITE
Crisp, clean and classic. I painted the exterior of our French doors the same shade of white color as the house- and love how they turned out.
GRAY
Love this color on Rachel Parcell’s front door- so beautiful.
BLACK
Love a classic black door like this one from Melissa at The Inspired Room
PINK
A pink door? This one is pretty darn charming. via Southern Living
CORAL
A bit bold and a whole lot of beautiful- coral is a pop of pretty.

TEAL
Bold & Bluetiful
Shades of Blue are a popular choice for the front door- and I found several that inspired me.
Navy Blue
Almost a Periwinkle Blue in some light
‘Avignon’ Vintage Blue
Green Blue
Hunter Green
Rich and elegant- I love how this green looks paired with that crisp white.
And another slightly darker shade
And a minty Laduree Green is always a favorite.
For something different- Purple anyone?
A burst of Sunshine with Yellow
Regal Red
Silver Gray Blue
This is our front door- and I love this color- it is Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray
I do love a natural wood look as well- that patina is incredible. Well, I mean- the whole door is pretty incredible too.
Do you have a favorite? Will share the little cottage door makeover soon and also what type of finish I am going with for the paint- Matte, eggshell, glossy- and why I prefer one to the others.
Stay well.
In the 1950s my mother painted the front door of our CA. post-war 2 bed/1 bath house a deep coral-red. I think she enjoyed "scandalizing" the neighborhood with her creative touches– she was always on the vanguard!! She would have loved this post. Thank You, Susan
Omgosh I love the Avignon vintage blue, but I want to take a hose to it so I can was it down!
I seem to also take photos of beautiful doors in Europe:) Love the neutrals, greys, green/blue, white, soft blue, hard to decide:)I'm still trying to find the perfect front door colour a green/blue grey, any suggestions? Love your blog!!!
I like the blue green — that is what I am planning on painting my front door. Right now it is dark brown in a recessed front porch which pretty much makes it look like a black hole. Also, I am painting the ceiling for the porch and patio “haint blue” — a common thing in the South.
Growing up my mother painted our door fire engine red. I like Cotswold green or a pale blue.
who makes the vintage blue and Laduree Green colors?
I love both!
