Who doesn’t like a little bling
a little ruffle
&
a whole lot of charm?
The office has been ready for a refresh for awhile now.
This months project with Lowes Creative Ideas was all about giving a room a little makeover.
Which was a perfect opportunity to put a little polish on the office
I had already organized the armoire in a previous post & built my little plank desk…
so the rest of the room deserved to be pretty too.
I went to Lowes, got some ideas of what I wanted to do
and started with several gallons of paint for the walls, ceiling and trim.
Choosing paint is never easy for me.
There are so many pretty colors
and variations of colors it’s hard to decide.
I knew that I wanted something pale.
Something with just a touch of color
and a soft creamy cottage look.
I chose the color Pale Linen by Valspar.
It is a very soft color with just a hint of blue.
I LOVE it and with the white moulding ~ it is absolutely perfect.
The trim is freshly coated in off the shelf Valspar white
which is the same color I used on the new wainscoting panels I made.
I wanted to give the office a little bit more of a finished feel by adding the wainscoting
on the bottom of the walls.
So I picked up several thin plywood panels,
a nice chair rail moulding
and lots of end cap moulding pieces to create the ‘squares’.
A little construction & white paint later…
and the room looked completely different.
There is old embossed wallpaper on the ceiling and
I thought about changing it to bead board but I kind of like the look it has
so just a new coat of white ceiling paint and it was refreshed and pretty.
Of course new lighting was in order and the dainty little pendant light from Lowes was just $39.99
Loved it & it’s one of their amazing deals in their New Lower Everyday Prices.
It is perfect for this small room
and the glass and bling add just the right touch of elegance.
For the draperies…
I was thinking something with layered ruffles
of course 😉
I grabbed a couple of my favorite cloth drop cloths from the paint section to make them
and started sewing away.
A simple two tiered ruffle adds a touch of shabby sweetness to the corner windows.
I also found the most darling drapery rods at Lowes with little birds on the ends.
They come in a oiled bronze type finish but you can paint them
any color you would like with a little spray paint-
they are so sweet in cottage white.
A pair of old crusty chippy salvage cupboard doors along side the windows brings a vintage touch.
As well as an antique screen door mounted on the door frame
for a little whimsy.
I am thinking of adding a burlap or fabric panel as well
but kind of liking the open look.
I am loving how everything turned out-
Just a simple refresh in this room but I think it came out so sweet.
It’s a perfect little spot to sew and create
or even just for a little daydream on the settee

Wow, you did Lowes proud. And the kicker is the screen door. The shot looking through it makes me feel like I'm getting a glimpse of a special moment in time. That's a great shot. Love it to pieces. Been looking for an old screen door for a while, but without any luck. Where did you find yours? The whole thing turned out beautifully!
That room is classic Courtney and I love it! Lots to pin here! ~ Maureen
Just perfect. I don't know what else to say to describe what I see….it ticks every box!!!!
Just perfect. I don't know what else to say to describe what I see….it ticks every box!!!!
The room turned out darling. I almost bought the same light fixture, but I kept thinking, where would I put it. I love the screen door. I am thinking of switching out my office door because it is never shut so why have it. Have a great weekend.
Courtney,
Your creative room looks amazing. And I am LOVIN that chandy.I may have to check out our lowes to see if I can find it.

Wonderful! I love the color you chose and I'm glad you left the embossed wallpaper on the ceiling–I think it's dreamy!
It is the details that make the room so wonderful. I love how you mixed old and new. The space is so pretty! Congrats on a job well done.
You have it all going for you in this delightful little room! Wonderful styling!
Courtney: Beautiful touch up. You have a really good eye. Great price on the light. I have just the opposite in my kitchen. Beadboard on the ceiling and anaglypta paper on the walls, in a little different pattern from yours. Just a beautiful job of everything..Happy Weekend..Judy
Absolutely beautiful Courtney!! I LOVE that ceiling and your new little pendent!!
What a beautiful space you have created!!! Love it all!!!
Blessings Lori
your rooms are always so charming–love this change:)
You do realize that you need to hire yourself out as an interior design consultant, don't you, Courtney??? lol! You are so incredibly talented when it comes to putting rooms together. You always know what should go where and what colors to choose. I adore this room! I must ask, too, where in the world you got that adorable electric candelabra? It's darling! Great job, sweetie!
xoxo laurie
I'm swooning over that screen door! I want one!!!!
Beautiful as usual, Courtney! 🙂
Yet ANOTHER gorgeous space created by you, Courtney! I love every detail from the paint color you chose … the pop of the roses … and the screen door!
So cute. I bought the same pendant light to go above my kitchen sink…er, whenever hubs is ready for that! I like the wallpaper idea for the ceiling. I was going to get real tim tiles for my ceiling, but they are a little pricey. I am wondering how the wallpaper would hold up in the kitchen if I tried that…. I wouldn't want it to peel ( sometimes there are crazy temp changes in the kitcehn). Love your dress form, too!
OMG your space turned out soooo beautiful….I have several rolls of that same wallpaper but never thought of putting it on the ceiling….thanks for the idea and for all the other hints…love love love it….the screen door reminds me of my grandmother's back in the day….have a great weekend 🙂
The room looks great! Especially love the touch of green of that beautiful green dress.
OMG, it is fabulous! The little Lowes pendant light is like a little jewel in the room, just simple and small and singular enough to make a HUGE statement. I've always loved that little pendant… Lowes has the best lighting sometimes. And that upholstered chair, makes my jaw drop it's so wonderful, and so is your little frenchy chair, i want a whole set just like them. The dropcloth curtains are perfectly shabby soft unaffected and charming.. you are amazing!
Cindy
wow, so beautiful–love the wood paneling and finish work and the beautiful blue!
Oh its like heaven! Seriously enchanting. Thank you ever so much for sharing. Cheers SpecialK XoXo
What a wonderful space to sit and create! It's beautiful, and the screen door–brilliant!
(Your photos are always pretty, but especially nice in this post — love the ones that are grayscale with just the touch of color.)
Wow – what a fantastic room…love that little light fixture! xoxo
Beautiful absolutley beautiful….and so charming. Everything you do just blows me away. And this room is another example of your amazing talent. Love it all to the littlest detail.

Love it all! Love the pressed metal ceiling, love the new light fitting from Lowes and love the touches of green, my favourite colour of all time. Just beautiful.
Girl! What a phenomenal job! I love what you did! It looks amazing. I love, LOVE the screen! I would leave it as is because it gives you the sneak peek and curiosity of "what's in there". Love it!! (Love Lowes, too! Hubby gets GREAT Contractor discounts!!)
so lovely, Courtney, love that wonderful desk, it's a beautiful place to "escape".
I suppose that I missed this in an earlier post, but I'd like to know the origin of the table base and the chair. The whole space is beautiful, but those two items especially caught my eye. Can you please let me know about these two specifically? Thanks so much!
Well done – that is really good.
Kylie

What a beautiful and tranquil place. Please, I beg you, don't ever do anything to that ceiling but enjoy it! Your room is lovely and I can just imagine the time that you'll spend there creating even more beautiful things! Congratulations on a wonderful space. xo, Kimberly
Courtney,
Another fabulous room! Love the old door and the ceiling details – and of course a chalk board is always a good thing!

What a beautiful room! I like everything about it. Great ideas!
Everything is fresh and beautiful, but I LOVE how you added the ruffles on the drop cloth curtains. What a great idea! Thanks for the inspiration.
omg !!! perfect !!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it ALL !!!!!!!! But, you know my very favorite thing??? That old screen door, the icing on the cake….and yes, no burlap curtain….love just the hint of privacy, sweet!

Hugs, Sherry
