‘I’ll have a blue Christmas tree’
Sometimes, something simple like a big blue vintage ornaments score inspires a look on the tree. This simple tree was unadorned- just twinkling away in the hallway. But a few stops at the thrift stores recently set the stage for a blue Christmas tree.
Vintage blue Christmas tree
I didn’t realize it at the time, but while stopping and shopping several different thrift stores one day- the theme for those scores that day was appearing. When I got home, I brought all the vintage treasures inside to clean and look through and noticed a whole lot of something blue. We had picked up several bags of vintage ornaments at various thrift stores- but didn’t realize how many were various shades of blue. I decorated a vintage tree by the antique cupboard in the bedroom and had several bags of leftover blue ornaments. So that little unadorned Christmas tree twinkling away in the hallway got a little blue Christmas makeover in a few minutes.
Vintage Baubles
This tree has aqua blue, royal blue, peacock blue, pale blue and even a couple navy blue ornaments. There are also different types of ornaments- from satin to shiny to matte. All together, those blues are beautiful.
Blue Velvet Ribbons & Beaded Garland
I added a few blue velvet ribbons and beaded garland to the tree as well. The beaded garland is one I have had for probably at least 10 years and is a lovely pale blue color.
Tip: Add a little bit of romance to the vintage with ribbons. Either tied in a bow or simply draped on the tree.
Pale Blue Ruffled Linen ‘Skirt’
Technically, not a tree skirt- this is one of our ruffled linen tablecloths that I gathered underneath the tree for another layer.
Tip: Think outside the traditional tree skirt box when looking for layers under the tree.

This tree is just lovely. My mom always had blue lights on our tree – so any blue on a tree takes me back to my childhood. It’s funny b/c it wasn’t getting all blue bulbs back then – she’d have to get multi-colored packs and take the blue bulbs out – a real big deal back then. She always donated the green orange and red that were left. My mom was frugal and never wasteful but she was adament about having an all blue tree. I think it was for Mother Mary maybe Not sure – wish I could ask her now.
Merry Christmas, Courtney.
