Welcome to the Weekend View.
A busy weekend full of family and fun here so keeping the Weekend View short and sweet.
Junking
We went out and did a bit of vintage shopping this week. I have been on a mission to fill up that very large cupboard in the dining room- and so, looking for anything and everything that fits the size and color theme to tuck on all those shelves. I will share a bit of what I scored second hand and what I ordered in a post this week. It has been awhile since I shared junking finds and it was always a fun post to do.

Mouse in the house
We have been leaving our bedroom French doors open while sleeping recently. We have screen doors on them that lock and a bistro table and chairs in front of them on the deck – so it is kind of like leaving the windows open except it lets a whole lot more of that cooler air in at night. With the temperatures consistently near 100 or above- and no air conditioning- that cooler air felt wonderful. Until I woke up several times one night hearing something in the bedroom. I turned the light on, sat up, looked around and listened and didn’t see anything. But it happened 3x and the third time? It sounded like something was at the bedroom door (I was imagining a raccoon had somehow gotten in the house and was waiting outside the door) So my husband got out of bed and there it was- a rat ran across the floor and through the screen door. So, doors closed obviously. haha and in the morning- we opened them up and saw the bugger had eaten a hole through the screen. My husband taped it up with thick masking tape until he could get the replacement screen to repair it- and the next night we slept with the doors closed (of course!) and that rat came back and ate through the tape. Obviously, it didn’t get in that time but now I am questioning leaving the windows open even. In all the years we have lived here- we have never had a problem with rats or mice. Thinking with the crazy heat – they are probably looking for water and getting a tad crazy.

Fire Glow
This morning we woke up thinking it was overcast outside- which was great since it has been so hot, overcast would be a break from the hot sun. But it was smoke not weather that was causing it to be darker.

The fire in Yosemite that broke out on Friday has sent smoke all over Northern California- and the red sun may look pretty- but the air is already thick with a fog of smoke that you can smell and taste. Fire season has officially begun in California. Hopefully they will get this one out quickly.

Happy Weekend All.
A friend of mine rescued a pregnant Calico kitty who just gave birth to absolutely adorable kittens! Sounds like great timing to me. You can leave your doors open if you have a cat to patrol the house at night. They get the job done.
See…problem solved!
Haha! Yes that would probably work! We do have 3 cats outdoors that are neighborhood kitties that patrol but they don’t seem to be catching too much.
Looking forward to seeing YOUR JUNKIng finds. I love junking….treasures abound from trash! Yes, a cat would solve the rat problem. Don’t that smoke cause breathing problems? I have sinus and I don’t think I could breath SMOKE. How many miles are you from fire? Take care.
The smoke is terrible and does cause a lot of breathing issues and other things for sure. We are about 3.5 hours from Yosemite probably- but the smoke drifts all over the place and whichever the wind blows is where it goes.
I would put out some traps. Can’t hang with rodents!
We haven’t seen any others in the house thankfully- this is the first one actually the entire time we have lived here. We do have live traps outside to catch them and move them to a different area to enjoy.
Problem solved. I had problems with mice coming in the garage and eventually in the attic. Bought this gadgets you plug in and it sends out a high frequency sound that you cannot hear but mice hate it. They wont come in your house.i never saw them again.
My guess is fires making vermin scatter…rats, as you know, are horribly destructive in so many ways! Triple digits & no a/c…ugh…done that, been…well, you get it. EnJOY your views & bring on “thrifting!” franki
We experienced the same situation. The nearby fires have forced the critters our way for safety, shelter, food, and water. We had to hire a service.
