Welcome to the weekend view.
This week has been another rain filled one so we have been inside enjoying a little down time from the projects out in the yard.
Stormy Weather
A bit of rain has been happening in California the past few weeks- and last weeks storm knocked the power out all across the state. The wind was a bit crazy and so, we mostly just stayed indoors and stayed warm by the fire until the power came back on a few days later. I managed to get some work on the computer and a few photos in the attic wrapped up. Here is a screen grab from a video of a peek I shared on instagram.
New Canon Camera
I think I may have mentioned I got a new camera recently and so, have been playing with it and trying to bond with it. Whenever I get another camera- there is definitely a bit of time where we have to get to know each other and understand how we can work together. I know that sounds like a relationship haha- it kind of is like that! Some cameras take longer to see eye to eye with- this one has been a pretty good one so far. The main thing is really just making sure all my favorite settings are in place correctly and then giving it a go.
Sourdough
We have been baking bread just once a week – and last weekend, the bread we made didn’t turn out correctly. I have run into an issue with burning the bottom of the loaf in the Dutch Oven- likely because with the lid on, the Dutch Oven I have is just too large for the top shelf in the oven. So it has to sit down on the lower shelf and that has just been no bueno. We tried baking just on a sheet – that was no bueno too. So, I ordered a bread oven Dutch Oven that should be arriving today- and we will be trying it out tomorrow. I will keep you posted!
Sourdough Discard Crackers
In the mean time, we decided to use some of the discard to make crackers. Why not put that discard to use- and crackers with just a couple of ingredients has to be better than crackers with all kinds of things that you can’t pronounce. They were super easy to make and we substituted the butter and used olive oil instead so they were also vegan. They lasted all of about a day before they were gone. So I would say they were a hit. Next time I make them, I can share the process here if you would like?
Happy Lunar New Year
My daughter in law Diem is Vietnamese and today they are celebrating Lunar New Year. They took Enzo to a festival this weekend so he can learn about the culture and traditions of his Vietnamese side of the family.
Happy Weekend everyone!

Enzo will have a lot to remember celebrating both countries holidays. He looks splended in his elaborate attire. I wish for him a very happy new year.

Hello, I also had trouble with my bottom burning..my sourdough bottom!… I now put a waded up piece of aluminum foil on the bottom of my pan then place the parchment paper with bread on top of this. i also put 3-4 ice cubes in the hot pan below the parchment paper then place the lid on. This has eliminated the burning issue. hope this is helpful!
