As we make our way through the new year, focusing on our new year’s goals and pushing to achieve new things, it’s important to remember to also slow down and find better balance in our lives. And a great way to do that is by practicing slow living and being mindful.
At the heart of slow living, it’s about being mindful and learning to live life in a more meaningful way designed to nurture you. A slow-living lifestyle focuses on your values, rest, and moving intentionally through your life so you can be more present, happy, and successful. But most of all, it’s about living the life you want to the fullest extent possible.
So, today, instead of listing tasks you can do to practice slow living in your day as we’ve shared before, we wanted to talk about how you can embrace it in all that you do through a mindful approach and help shift your mindset to live the life of your dreams and make the most of every moment.

1. Taking a mindful, minimal approach to your life
One of my favorite ways to practice mindfulness is through a minimal approach to my life. From simplifying my schedule, the decor in my space, or my purchases, I am allowing myself room for the things I truly love, enjoy, and appreciate.
Too often, we consume material things we don’t really need. We consume toxic media that leaves us feeling stressed, buy things we don’t totally love, and allow things into our space that aren’t serving the person or the life we want. This leaves us feeling weighed down, overwhelmed, and frustrated. Not to mention, all these stress-inducing things around you can make it really hard to immerse yourself in the moment.

Being minimal with what you allow in your life doesn’t mean you have to be a minimalist. It’s more about being conscious of what you have, what you need, and what you don’t, but it doesn’t mean you have to get rid of what you love. By simplifying our lives, we simplify our minds and allow more room for positivity and peace to flourish. Allow space for what matters most to you, and eliminate all that is just there to take up space.
2. Slowing your pace through mindfulness
A long soak in the tub with Epsom salts. A cup of hot lemon ginger tea and some quiet time. Catching up on a book or spending some time working on a creative project that brings joy. Another part of being mindful is learning to slow your pace. This doesn’t mean creating a window of time once a week for yourself but structuring your entire life to be more rejuvenating and fulfilling. That means not rushing through your self-care time in the morning, not stressing yourself out over taking breaks in the day, and not pushing yourself when you know you need to rest. This also means learning to be more present in your day and the tasks you do so you don’t live your life stuck on auto-pilot.

We all have different obligations in the day, but slowing your pace through mindfulness isn’t about forgetting what you have to do; it’s becoming aware of the fact that life is not meant to be lived in the fast lane and that there is a time for work, but there is also a time for rest. It’s about realizing that if we become more intentional in our lives and with our time and energy, we can find ways to bring more meaning into our downtime and our tasks so they become more fulfilling to us.
Outside of your daily responsibilities, you have a responsibility to yourself to take care of you. When you learn to be more mindful in your approach to your life, you allow yourself to cultivate more joy. Live mindfully in the moment and slow down to truly enjoy all the beauty that life brings.
3. Being mindful of the small moments
Lastly, aside from slowing your pace through mindfulness, it’s also important to practice being mindful of the small moments. The small moments are the moments that are constantly happening around us that many of us often overlook, such as the moment when you open your eyes and take a breath in the morning. Or the moments when you’re eating and stop and savor the flavors. Or the moments when you’re outdoors and can immerse yourself in the scenery.

When we slow down and focus on becoming present in these moments, we start to live life more fully and experience everything we do to the fullest degree. We begin to cultivate more joy in the present and live a more fulfilling life made up of small, precious moments. We also begin to see more inspiration, beauty, and love and start to welcome it into our lives more.
But more than anything, when we shift our focus and start to see the little things as a blessing, our entire life starts to look like one. Slow down to immerse yourself in the little moments around you, and you will change your life.
You can change your mindset
Being mindful isn’t about changing your schedule or setting aside a small window of time for yourself each day; it’s about changing your mindset so you can shape a life that will nurture you in everything you do. It’s about immersing yourself in the present, choosing a more fulfilling path, and cultivating joy in everything around you.
Once you start to look at things differently, you’ll begin to realize that there are so many ways you can be more mindful in every aspect of your life outside of the points mentioned above that can make a huge difference in how you experience life and happiness.
Slow down, live for the moment, and ask yourself how you can be more mindful in each task you do. It takes time, but with practice and a steady approach, you’ll learn to reshape your world and see every moment, big and small, as a blessing.
