I popped into TJMaxx with my daughter last month to scout out the autumn decor that was popping up. We were not disappointed – there were so many beautiful autumn items to choose from. Aside from the wood mushrooms that we found- I picked up the perfect diffuser for all autumn long- a glitzy glittery witches cauldron diffuser- so fun. My daughter talked me into it and now it lives in my office and diffuses a lovely autumn scent.
I happened to resist most other big fall things because I was on a mission and was more there looking for specific things. Like wood mushrooms. I know, I know. Random as it gets, right? But you see, I found a set of paper mushrooms last year at the Junk Gypsy’s for Christmas decor and we picked up a vintage wood carved mushroom at the thrift store probably about 6 months ago now so it has been a thing. Though I don’t decorate with them often – those mushrooms seem perfect for autumn.
And so, when I walked in and spotted a handful of those delightful little mushrooms- I was doing the happy dance.
Wood Mushrooms
I mean, look how darling they are? Even just by themselves- they have so much sweet charm. Though I wonder- is it a toadstool or a mushroom? I do like the whimsy of calling them toadstools but am not sure what the difference is or if there is a difference? Anyone know? Whatever they are correctly called- they are adorable. Currently, these mushrooms are living in the potting shed which I think is an absolutely perfect place for them. But I snapped a couple of quick photos to show some other ideas for enjoying them in decor too.
3 Ideas for Decorating with Wood Mushrooms
A mushroom filled ‘moment’ on a shelf is a perfect way to enjoy a simple and sweet look. I picked through the wood mushrooms to find the ones that were more of a raw finish and I absolutely love how they mingle with the vintage oil painting here.
Mushrooms in an open cupboard
Such a sweet look on a table or tucked inside an open cupboard. Simply use some simple natural underneath, add the mushrooms and enjoy.
Mushrooms on the mantel
I love the mingle of mushrooms and artwork- and on the mantel it is a perfect way to enjoy them both.
I was going to style a whole mantel for this but you know- I love the minimal feeling and the backdrop of the antique painting so left it as it is. I do have another fun idea for decorating for autumn with mushrooms that will be coming your way so stay tuned for more.

I bought a few mushrooms 2 yrs ago when Hobby Lobby had them clearnenced. I used in a Spring decor in She Shed. Your styling is pretty with the mushrooms.

I love mushrooms, especially wooden ones, for fall and winter. I found my first collectible at World Market. You’ve got some really notable examples.

Love them! I am enjoying the mushroom craze, but some are too cartoonish for me. These are perfect.
