You know the story of Cinderella.
Well, this house is kind of like Cinderella. It was wearing some pretty tattered clothes and was definitely run down when we bought it. It wasn’t a house that anyone wanted to buy. Matter of fact- it was on the market on and off for about 2 years when we looked at it. This house is kind of like Cinderella and that rags to riches, tattered to polished and pretty, and right down to a pumpkin that turns into a coach kind of story.
And the bathrooms? Well, they take that whole big pumpkin to a coach to a whole other level. I kid you not.
The Before
Did you know that the ceiling in this room was OPEN to the attic? Talk about open concept rooms… (P.S. – it is good to have a dad who is a licensed contractor- AND sons who love demolition)
That window right there is the only window in the bathroom- and was where the bathtub was and is where the shower is now.
This was the tub when we moved in. Actually took this photo before we began living in the house. And oh what a joy it was to bleach & scrub all that grout before letting the kids have that first bath.
The tub had an interesting design- I think it was supposed to be a ‘spa’ feeling lean back and relax type bathtub- but you know what? Those tiles were FREEZING even if you put straight hot water in the tub.
Did I mention this bathroom had no sink when we moved in as well? No ceiling, no sink & a tub that never got warm. We guess that the owners were in process of updating and renovating it in the 80’s maybe and then stopped. Thankfully, it did have rough in plumbing so it didn’t take my dad long to get a sink hooked up and working.
The house was beyond run down. Beyond rotting away and unlivable in the current state- but it also had so much potential to be so incredible. And so that was what we focused on.
You can read more about the BEFORE here– and how we got out that trusty old magic wand and waved it around a bit and made the bathroom look a whole lot prettier… (yeah, not sure sure about that magic wand working magic- it looks more like work.)
The After
And you can see the Full reveal guest bathroom AFTER in this post here.
Side note- some of these photos appeared in my book French Country Cottage- which you can find HERE– and you of course- don’t miss pre-ordering my new book Inspired Gatherings HERE.
Happy Monday all.

Courtney, this is spectacular! I was wondering, did you use the Satori Marble Subway Wall Tile. the tile in your photos look soft blue to me, but i can’t tell. hoping to remodel my bathroom soon!
Courtney says
I don’t believe it was the Satori- I believe it was Allen & Roth brand and was a Carrera Marble. But they could have change the brand name since then?
