There is something about simple and sweet garden grown floral arrangements. With so many beautiful perfect arrangements out there – those simple and sweet mix and mingle bouquets feel ‘vintage’ and classic in style to me. I adore them- and the best part is no two are the same. Depending on what is blooming in the garden- each one looks a little different. Today I am sharing this beautiful gathered floral arrangement along with 3 tips for creating your own burst of beauty.

Gathered Floral Arrangement
Of course the first thing to suggest would be to pick up your basket and wander your garden to see what is blooming. I am going to share what I clipped this evening- but your florals will look more like your own garden style. The key is to gather up what is blooming and what is speaking to you- it will be perfect!

Fabulous Florals
The first tip is to cut your flowers at a good length.
I know that sounds so simple but it does make a difference. If you are able to cut them a little longer- you give yourself more room to play with the size of the vessel and mingle in even more blooms. If they need to be clipped short- that is okay too- you can put them into a dainty vessel like a vintage sugar container or milk pitcher.

Something Tall
Add in a tall and stately bloom to create some height.
I used Larkspur in this arrangement and it added such a lovely nostalgic feeling and pop of pretty pale blue.

Rambling Vines

Bring in a few vining beauties. I love to tuck in some rambling blooms and vining plants. Those wild and somewhat wonky vines add a bit of whimsy and sweetness – and a little bit of drama.
I clipped some of the wild sweet peas we have in the yard and also added a couple sprigs of scabiosa for a ‘floaty’ look.

Gathered Glory
Gathered arrangements are not ‘perfect’- they are perfectly imperfect and that is one of their biggest charms. So don’t feel like you need to count stems or make each side of the arrangement mirror the other. Mingled and wonky and gathered glorious blooms is the goal.
I like to grab my basket and clippers and simply wander the garden and yard and clip what talks to me or inspires me in the moment. Sometimes it is long grasses, vines like ivy or even a few clippings from a hanging basket or tree. And other times, it is various garden roses, wildflowers and branchy blooms that are speaking to me that day. Don’t be afraid to clip flowers even in some of them on the stem are drying or not perfect. You can always clip individual blooms off or enjoy a few dropped petals.

The best part of these arrangements is they really are all different and you can add more of something you love- like garden roses and also leave out blooms that you aren’t loving at the moment or that you prefer to leave in place in the garden.

You do the best arrangements and I like the idea of using different vessels for the flowers.
