When I was a little girl
decorating the Christmas tree was a big event.
I would dance up and down as the boxes were hauled out of the attic
and dusted off.
And as we opened each one up
it was like rediscovering Christmas past every year.
There was that ornament that you made in 2nd grade
you know, the kind made out of macaroni that was glued to a cardboard star
and the one that we got for our dog BJ that looked just like her
Oh and all those little wooden toys
that were painted in colorful red, blue and green
that were just like the ones that Grammy always put on her little tree on a table
The old red felt tree skirt and stockings were there
and so was the star that went at the very top of the tree
It was like seeing old friends and reveling in each memory
as you were making new ones and adding the special ornaments for this year.
But all those fun discoveries were after the event…
putting up the tree.
We had a beautiful tree that seemed like it was 20 feet tall to me when I was small
and that took 5 hours to put up.
You know the kind.
The ones that had color coded individual branches.
You had to separate each branch into a pile of sections
the red for the bottom row
the yellow for the second to bottom row- with 3 red ones mixed in
blue for the third row- with 5 yellow ones mixed in
and so on
and that doesn’t even count the extra event
of putting all the lights on and trying to find each connector.
Imagine if you could just literally place one section of an artificial tree
onto the next and the light connectors were all in the center of the pole
and each section had the perfect amount of red, yellow and blue branches already in place.
All you had to do was plug it in and voila- you were decorating.
Pretty amazing.

Okay… confession time.
I have been enjoying this tree and crushing on it daily
and the whole entire time it has been simply wearing nothing but
it’s twinkling lights.
One of the things I love about flocked trees is that they don’t need
any other ornamentation to look absolutely beautiful.
But I had a little fun the other day and added some simple cottage decor
a few frosted berries and twigs
sprigs of real juniper
various sizes of white ornaments
and a rustic gold raffia star on top.
So it has a little bit of decoration that compliments and doesn’t take away
from it’s frosty look and it seems to twinkle even more.

So looking forward to the unveiling of your tree. The frosted is a wonderful look and I agree that it doesn't need any ornaments, but what you did do was intriguing and interesting with using different textures of white ornaments. They almost look like snowballs adorning the branches. The frosted berries add just enough color to break about the softness of all white. So tranquil and serene. What a lovely way to use Balsam hills Frosted Fraser fir. The red presents on the white tree skirt or fabric signal the onset of the holidays without too much fanfare. Thank you so much for your beautiful decor for this Christmas tree.

Hi – I found your blog on the Balsam Hill website when I just ordered the Frosted Frasier Fir tree. After ordering I read all 18 reviews and got scared about everyone complaining about the mess. I tried to cancel, but my order was already pending shipment so I have to just get it and return it. I'm wondering if you've found the mess to be a deterrent or is it worth it. I have two small grandchildren, so I know there will be activity near the tree. Will I be sorry? It's so beautiful, I'm hoping it's worth the mess.
Hi Gail! Thanks so much for your comment and for stopping by! I am a huge fan of the Frosted Fraser fir- I actually have 2 of them and am ordering a smaller one to add in this year. They can be messy and yes, they will drop frosting sprinkles when you put them up- and when you take the sections down- but once it is up- you should be good. I have had other flocked trees that have done the same thing- I think it is the nature of a 'flocked' tree so I think it is to be expected. I would not hesitate to purchase it- it is such an incredibly beautiful tree and I would definitely bring another home (and I am!) 🙂 I hope that helps!
