The most fabulous antique farm table score- beyond beautiful with patina that inspires.
Antique Farm Table
A table with as much character and patina as this one inspires one to imagine all the stories it could tell. The meals shared with family gathered around. The laughter and chatter over a cup of coffee. And everyday moments that become special memories. Today, sharing a look at this beautiful antique table I brought home recently and set for a Christmas gathering.
Chippy Paint
This table is another Facebook marketplace score. I wasn’t looking for a table. I was merely perusing the listing when I saw it pop up. I know, perusing and window shopping leads to buying- but sometimes- you find just what you need even though you didn’t know you needed it.
Layers of chippy paint add so much charm to this table.
From info the seller and also some research we did: It has 3 drawers with old peg construction- which date it probably to the early-mid 1800’s or so. The seller also offered info that it was very old and was in grandparents home for many years & handed down over the generations.
Well Loved Patina
What could be even better than those beautiful chippy layers of paint? Well loved patina on the tabletop. I mean- it truly is beyond beautiful. A hand rubbed finish with so many bits of character- including rounded gouged areas, old pegs and lots of well loved use marks.
The sunken in round area reminds me of a mortar and pestle. But old farm tables were often built using old materials found around the house and it looks like this one was once old floorboards that were repurposed to be a table. I love the quirky details in all those marks- especially the little add ins and rounded area. Another fun tidbit? My husband went to pick this up for me. I was in the middle of a photo shoot and had a deadline and we were trying to find a time to take the drive up in the timeframe that worked for the seller. My husband said he didn’t mind running up to the mountains and he knew my style well enough to decide if it was a yay or nay. He said he knew it was definitely perfectly ‘crustic’ (crusty rustic perfection) for me and that I would love it. So he loaded it up and brought it home.
Set for Christmas Gatherings
Funny behind the scenes story: my husband and I were moving this table from his truck in the driveway to this patio under the oak tree last month for a few photos before bringing indoors. It is HEAVY. As in HEAVY HEAVY. With my shoulder flaring up- No way I was going to be able to haul half of the weight of it. And it was quite the trek over the lawn to get to the patio- the furniture dolly was on loan and so we laid it flat on top of the wheelbarrow. My husband pushed it and I tried to keep it steady. It only slid off *one or two* times. haha.
We joked at the time that we should be filming a BTS ‘ Reality’ of setting up for some of those romantic looking photoshoots of tables in various areas. It was comical for sure and brought us back to when we stopped on the side of the road to set a table in a field for Inspired Gatherings. That was quite the load to cart into the field then too- but without a wheelbarrow to help.
On the Table
I kept this table setting on the simple side and let the patina do most of the talking.
A fresh garland, simple place settings, candles and twinkle lights.
What do you think of this antique farm table? Would you have brought it home with you or is it too rustic for your style?

I love this table. Pieces with a history, as well as proven by the wear on the piece, are my favorite. You always make furniture and rooms (including outdoor) shine with your style and accessories.
