You know sometimes there is a plant in your yard that gets a bit overlooked most of the time- except when it blooms. Such is the case with this beautiful blooming spirea. The most majestic of blooming beauty when it flowers- it absolutely steals the spotlight. Sharing a closer look at it today.

Beautiful Blooming Spirea
We planted this beautiful blooming spirea years and years ago so honestly, I am going off of what I remember being told it was when we bought it. I believe it is a Bridal Wreath spirea but there are many varieties of them- like double, vanhouttei (which looks very close) and the snowmound spirea and June Bride are very similar but smaller in size. So I am not 100% sure of this exact variety so choose one you like when shopping. When we moved from Minnesota, one of the plants we had in our yard was spirea and so we were already familiar with this deciduous plant and decided to add some to our yard. We added the usuals that we were familiar with and also found this beautiful blooming one and added a handful of those as well. It has grown quite large over the years and though we cut it back when it gets leggy or too woody in areas- it rewards us with flushes of beautiful arching flower branches every spring and creates a show stopping look in the yard.

Beautiful Backdrops

Of course, it is a beautiful backdrop for a photo – a portrait of someone special, a magic filled table or just a ‘moment’ all are perfect. But even after it blooms, it is a lovely full rich green leafed shrub look which has a charm to it as well.

Where to plant
Google says that Bridal Wreath Spirea thrives in zones 4-9 so if you fit into one of those- go grab a couple and plant them if you like them too. I love them planted in hedges- on repeat and repeat down a line. But you can also plant just one and enjoy it- they will grow in so large and full and so sooo beautiful. My only regret is that I didn’t plant more than just a few of this variety in our yard so it is definitely on the list to pop a few in here and there.

We called spirea “bridal wreath” in northwest Missouri, so I guess that is all we grew there The snowmound certainly is showy and both are beautiful. You must have the ideal conditions there or just a green thumb!
THere were so many comments on FB about bridal Wreath, which truly is a midest name for spirea. Thanks for the photos. Beth

I neverr heard of this plant but it is beautiful.
Bridal Wreath Spirea has been on my list of plants to add to my gardens for quite a few years now and this year I finally bought 2 – one for my main home and one for my coast home. A person needs to be careful when purchasing spirea to make sure you get the correct old fashioned bridal wreath favorite. by looking at the photos you posted courtney i’m pretty sure you have the same one I purchased. The branches cascade with rosettes of tiny white flowers. Mine is called double bridal wreath spirea plena. I purchased it from Wilson Bros. Gardens in a 3 gallon pot. They are currently out of stock but a person may be able to find it elsewhere. I just wanted to point out that there are different kinds of spirea and it would be a shame if someone planted one and was disappointed with the variety they have. I almost did that myself so I did extensive research to find the correct one. anyway I’m very excited to finally have these beauties and cannot wait until next year’s bloom. Yours are gorgeous courtney!
Your articles and photos are fabulous! I have Van Houttei variety lining our curved driveway and it puts on a spectacular show each spring. I have 6 plants and plan to add more because I love it so much. Thanks for your photos!
Courtney – you’ve inspired me to find a place for this shrub in my gardens. I’m sharing this linke with my readers in my newsletter this week. I hope it inspires them too.
