All things Merry & Bright has officially kicked off for the season! And this year is all about Christmas all the time with my new Christmas book out. Today we are talking about a simple & charming and an inspired vintage Christmas tree look that is full of nostalgia.
Vintage Christmas Tree
Oh how I love a little bit of extra oomph on a Christmas tree. Whether that is with big ornaments that make a statement, flowers on repeat or a few boxes of tinsel draped on the branches of the tree. You know what I love about tinsel? The slightest little movement makes it shimmer and shine. If you walk by, or if you have an older house like ours that is drafty- it delights you with that shimmer all the time. But even when it isn’t glistening away- it looks good just sitting there too.
If you have my new Christmas book= you know that I wasn’t always a huge fan of tinsel on a tree- but my husband definitely was. And when the pandemic hit- it just felt like the right time to really add that tinsel and those nostalgic colorful lights as well. We all needed a little something more cheery to brighten the season. The tinsel has stayed and I venture to say it might have gotten a bit more obsessive. While we had a few tosses of tinsel over the years – this tree has a few boxes of tinsel on it.
Vintage Baubles
It started with vintage baubles on repeat. and repeat. and repeat. I have collected vintage ornaments for years and while some trees are vintage in one or two colors- I do love the look of the colors all mingling on the tree – so pretty.
After the ornaments were in place- I added the tinsel. And repeat and repeat and repeat.
Under the tree
Something that isn’t always thought about when decorating your tree is underneath. Whether you use a skirt or a bucket or anything else to hold your tree- the packages are another way to add a layer of lovely. These are wrapped with red butcher paper for more of that dazzle.

Courtney,
I’m swoonong, with my jaw dropped and my mouth wide open! Please don’t call the guys in the white coats! I’ll be O.K. in a moment. Lovely, lovely, lovely. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Beautiful tree!!!

I must be vintage, myself, because I was around to see the decor we now call, ” vintage”. Never, did i see a tree in the 50’s as beautiful as the one you have pictured in this blog. Was that a pre-flocked, live tree? It would be wonderful to view a video of the flocking and the application of tinsel. Mine would never look that magical. You certainly have a gift for making things beautiful!

So pretty! Love a Christmas tree smothered in tinsel with colored lights! This brings back childhood memories.

I may do tinsel this year, I’m not sure, because I have 2 cats and one of them gets in to everything. Hmmm.. Beutiful tree as always.
Susan says
Tinsel, even a tiny amount can be fatal for cats.
As much as I love the tree shown here, and tinsel in general, I never use it at home, or glass ornaments, no flocking, because I have two cats. You can still have a beautiful tree, just think pet safety. Oh, be careful with house plants too. Check online to be sure they are cat/pet safe before you bring any home.

Hi, Yes, of course. If you have cats or other pets- you need to be careful with your decorations and house plants – safety first! We do not have cats bit if we did, we would not have it in our home.

Oh what lovely things that I do so like

It is a beautiful tree! When I was growing up, we always used tinsel. Love the vintage ornaments and I’m lucky enough to have inherited quite a few from my sister {who got them from our parents!} and ones I received from my parents. I would love to decorate with tinsel…love the sparkls it gives…but I would have to hire someone to come and remove it after Christmas. I am a patient person, but not that patient!!
