Thank you so much for all the love and pre-orders of my new book friends! Today, I thought I would take you behind the cover of the book and share more about the styling and how it came together.
It all started with collecting tureens
When I dreamed up this view as a styling for the book, I thought about filling the shelves of the cupboard with all kinds of beautiful white tureens. I had a dozen or so on hand already, but I needed more to fill this 14.5’ long cupboard. We scoured the thrifts several times, bringing home a couple vintage cuties here or there. And eventually, we had enough to fill the bulk of the shelves with for a cropped view.
Tips:
Collecting white tureens was a fun several weeks long process- so thrifting often was key. Old ironstone and white dishes are something that people donate to the thrifts often, so it wasn’t too hard to find the right look. But uniform was not the goal, unique and interesting and pretty was. I found several in odd shapes, but most were traditional over or round. But don’t be afraid to bring home something that speaks a bit more than others – like that turkey tureen in the center. He brought a lovely charm. The others tip is to think outside the white palette and go with old ironstone with subtle patterns or colors. I had several old brown and black transfer ware covered tureen/casserole dishes that I stacked and even though they were not only white, they worked perfectly.
1 or 2?
I styled this photo in 2 different ways, with 2 arrangements and with 1 arrangement.
I wasn’t sure which direction we would go in for the book, I often take extras and style things a tad differently and tweak it as I work.
I believe we included both in the book in different sections. So a tip when working on a styling is to not be afraid to tinker with placements or even change the whole look.
All the details
Aside from the collection of tureens and white dishes in the cupboard, it was all about the table. The flowers take center stage of course, what is more lovely than a big bouquet of white peonies. Tucked beside it, an antique silver dome cover and of course, candles make everything more glowy and beautiful.
A Secret?
I didn’t style this or take these photos anticipating it would be THE cover. But I did think that while I was working on capturing it. I often have a view that my camera catches that just clicks with all the things. I included this styling as a Cover Favorite for consideration (along with some even stronger ones in my opinion) and this is the one they all landed on for several reasons. What do you think of it?
