Sometimes you find something just looks perfect
to be something other than what you see when you first look at it.
As one of those design & DIY oriented girls
I am always looking at something and seeing something else that it could become.
For our November Lowe’s Creative Ideas challenge
it was all about the Holidays over here.
I chose something simple to make that would be easy to do ahead and have on hand
for a last minute hostess gift or for an unexpected guest.
It’s never too early to start planning for those Holiday gifts and so
I decided on working with something simple & unassuming for the project
like cork.
You know those cork squares that you can find in the closet or organizing department?
How about those cork plant rounds
you know the ones you place under a pot to keep your floor protected
from water and moisture damage?
I loved them when I found them at Lowes and instead of seeing
floor protectors and wall tiles~ I saw coasters for the Holidays.
I knew they could be decorated with sweet little designs like snowflakes
and personalized with monograms
So into my cart they went.
The round coasters got a sweet little stencil with simple gloss black paint~ love, love, love them
and the squares?
I cut them down into ‘regular’ coaster size and had fun dreaming up some ideas for decorating them.
Some of them were monogrammed using the same paint and a stencil
and the others were decoupaged with a new favorite darling music note paper
and sealed with a sealant.
You could do whatever you would like with these- dream it up and do it.
I tied the finished coasters together in packs of 4 with a sweet ribbon
a sprig of cedar and little pinecones
and then into a basket they went where they sit ready for gift giving
for hostess gifts
or a last minute holiday treat.
Easy to add to a kitchen gift basket.
The best thing about these- you can completely personalize them.
A monogram
Mr. & Mrs.
A special message or quote
or
even a favorite decoupaged paper or fabric
I am loving them- so simple, so sweet, so easy to make.
Tutorial coming your way
I have another super quick and easy to make gift idea coming as well
that involves a little bit of wood and a marker.
😉

Beautiful idea Courtney!
Greetings. RW & SK
What a GREAT IDEA! I've had "cheap coasters" on my shopping list forever, because I had this idea that if everyone in the family had a coaster with their name on it, then maybe they would use just ONE GLASS PER DAY. Use a glass, put it on your coaster. Simple as that. I like this idea SO much better than ugly coasters from wally world! I think I'm doing it!
This looks doable and not too time consuming. Thanks Courtney!
I would love to have a basketful of these to hand out to our guests at our annual Christmas Eve open house!
I love the sheet music ones! Really clever and pretty to boot!
Jeanine
What an absolutely adorable idea! and it looks like it would be fun too… simple, fun, pretty, and functional – what could be better than that!
