Cottage garden flower arrangements are always beautiful. I love when the garden starts blooming and I can wander about and clip a few blooming beauties to bring inside to enjoy.
Today I am sharing a fresh from the garden arrangement- and a few tips. I created a reel on Instagram to share as well- and including it here if you would like to watch me create this arrangement.
Garden Blooms
To create a garden full of blooms to enjoy- you have to plant your favorites. You can plant as many favorites as you would like- I have quite a few myself so completely understand the need to plant more. For an arrangement- I usually think in numbers like 4-5 of your favorites for cut flowers. I like to also include some herbs like rosemary or lavender.
Once those blooms start popping up- gather up a few to enjoy in an arrangement.
Creating the arrangement
I like to start with greens and sturdy blooms to create a base, add a little bit of height with a taller flower and also some rambling flowers like roses or hellebore.
For this arrangement, I used: White Iceberg roses, Hellebore, Foxglove, Lavender, Anemone, Dahlias, purple tulips and olive branches. All were blooming in the garden at the same time but of course, you can play with the ones you enjoy in your garden and customize your arrangement.
A few tips
Choose 4-5 different flowers in your favorite color palette to plant in your garden. Include a few herbs like rosemary & lavender, taller flowers and loose, rambling flowers like roses.
When they bloom- gather to create your arrangement. I usually start with sturdier greens and flowers to create a base, then tuck in chunkier blooms like dahlias & foxgloves and fill in with flowers with a bit of loose drape.
A favorite tip is to add some height with a taller bloom and also a bit of drama with rambling flowers like roses.
By clipping flowers- you also encourage more blooms to grow which you can enjoy all season long.
I hope this helps inspire you to do a bit of wandering in your garden to see what you can clip to bring inside. Happy flower arranging everyone.
*Disclosure- I used Burpee Seeds and worked with Burpee but this post is not sponsored.

so are these flowers from your garden then? Dahlias do not bloom til late summer, early fall, roses , yes are blooming different times of the whole summer. and foxgloves are a spring bloomer, aren’t they? At least around here they are. so just curious. Or is it more About the colors you chose to plant for a cottage bouquet? thank you!

Yes indeed- from the garden. We are in California and some of the dahlias are blooming here already- we also have a greenhouse and force bulbs early on occasion. Everything that I used for this bouquet was cut from the garden last week.

Great post 🙂 I’m in California, too. You’re right. The dahlias are glorious this year. I was sad to see the ranunculas fade away so quickly, but the dahlias more than make up for it. I am also loving my alstroemerias and roses. I have never added rosemary to my bouquets, but that’s a great idea. Thanks so much for all your great ideas and inspiration. I look forward to every post.
