You know how those late summer evenings
turn into early autumn evenings by the fire overnight?
Literally- as in tomorrow is the first day of fall.
Here in California
we often have that glorious warm weather lasting late into fall.
Right now, we are actually in the 90’s again
and the evenings have just a slight chill in the air.
So, though we aren’t ready for wrapping up in blankets by the fire-
we are ready for harvest parties and fall gatherings outdoors.
And you know that I love evening get togethers- especially outside.
I love to plan all kinds of fun things to go along with them
like what simple treats are easy and delicious and fun to serve.
Like popcorn.
Popcorn is always a big hit for parties.
Salty or sweet.
Plain or drizzled in butter.
Or even better…
drizzled in chocolate and sprinkled with toffee or nuts.
I am in.
Popcorn is one of those treats that is great for both kids and adults
and somehow when you are an adult and eat popcorn
it makes you feel like a kid, right?
And eating popcorn out of a jazzy colorful popcorn bag is even better.
So how about popcorn in a paper cone?
Super charming to stack up and fill a caddy or box with
they are just plain fun
and those cones are seriously simple to make.
Here’s what you need:
brown craft paper
a plate
scissors
pen
a stapler & staples
and
popcorn
Start out by tracing your plate on the paper.
If you want big cones- use a big plate
Smaller cones- a smaller plate.
For reference- this is a salad plate.
Repeat tracing that plate for as many cones as you would like to make
and then cut out your circles.
There are some tutorials that tell you to cut a small wedge out of them to roll
them easier.
Honestly, I did that and it didn’t work out so well for holding the popcorn.
So, I tossed that one and went basic.
I rolled them just as they are in the full circle and
made them tighter at the bottom (to create the pointy end)
and wider at the top.
Staple or tape to secure and voila- your cone is done.
Then repeat. repeat. repeat. and then go make your popcorn.
Fill your cones with popcorn
and place them in a caddy or tall tray for serving.
Serving these cones filled with popcorn is kind of like playing
one of those games of Jenga.
You pull one delicious popcorn filled cone out…
and will the others stay or will they spill?
all.over.the.floor.
I bet you are wondering how I know about that, right?
😉
Well let’s just say you need a good tray to be able to keep them from falling over
One with little dividers would be pretty perfect or just one that is tall enough to keep them all
semi-separated and happy.
Unless you don’t mind a little bit of spilled popcorn.
The other option for serving would be to have the cones stacked up
and ready to go in the tray
and set a bowl of popcorn and scoop with them
and guests can fill (and refill and refill) as they wish.
Happy Tuesday everyone.
