Can you believe that today marks just 100 days until Christmas? How did that happen already this year! I feel like we just got to summer and now we are heading quickly into all things autumn and now- all things merry & bright are just around the corner. I will be honest- I do my holiday planning early for a couple of reasons.
Holiday Decor Planning
#1 I like to dream up the decor, tree themes and all the pretty details I would like to use and get the orders placed early before things sell out.
#2- because I do work with Christmas all year long and have put together a Christmas Book – I am always in the dreaming and idea mode so it doesn’t necessarily feel early to me to be planning Christmas in July.
And #3 – this year we have a lot going on in October and my calendar is already brimming that month. So I am starting early with working on shares for the blog for November.
*Side Note- I have a couple open spots on the calendar to do some book signings in November so let me know if you know of a place you would like me to do a signing at this year. As well- I have been told by my publisher that my book prices will be increasing this year so it is a great time to grab your copies.
If you are a bit of an early planner too – today’s post is perfect for you. We are talking holiday decor planning in this post- but also- read to the bottom for an exclusive savings coupon as well.
Holiday Decor
I always start with what is inspiring me in the moment each season. Sometimes that is more natural decor. Or a certain color for the tree- like blue and white.

Or maybe it is a cohesive all over the house kind of look rather than a mingle.

Whatever it is – magic is key.
Create Magic. For magic in your holiday stylings- think twinkle lights, fairy lights, ornaments that are lit, candles – both faux and real and all the fun things that go along with all things ambiance. Some of my favorite ways to add magic are by layering the lights- on the tree, on the mantel, on the table.
A twinkling tree
Even if you leave the tree with nothing but lights- that glow is sure to set the mood and the feeling of Christmas.
You don’t have to deck the halls with allllll the things to create a merry magic feeling- especially when decorating early in the season. Keep it simple- bring in the cozy lights and warmth and call it good.

Choose your favorites for decor that mingles
Is your house decorated with neutrals? Bold and beautiful colors? Somewhere in between? Whatever your everyday look is- choose something that compliments and meshes well for your Christmas decor. This helps keep your home from feeling overly busy and keeps Christmas decor as a continuation of your decor style.

Go for the Bold and traditional for a mix
Or if you are feeling a bit sassy- go for the bold. Bring in the color and layer it on for a statement that says ‘merry and bright’ and Christmas cheer.

Have fun with your Christmas themes
Maybe you want to do a festive kids tree with traditional colors, favorite character ornaments or something unique. Or a glam tree- full of glitzy sparkly picks, rhinestone garland and more. Or something completely unique to you and your style- like a shabby chic inspired tree or a western theme tree, etc. Whatever you choose- have fun with your theme and the elements of the decor.

Courtney! you have put me in the Christmas Spirit. I know your Christmas book will be beautiful this year. I wish for a mansion with one of your decorated trees in each room. I do believe in starting early.
I’m ready! I liked your suggestion of introducing Christmas in subtle ways early on, things that support your daily decor. I love all your ideas of Christmas trees and will be duplicating your blue and white tree, from last year as a small, second tree in the house. Thank you.
