So excited about starting up this new Love it or Leave it series all about thrifting treasures. I am always on the lookout for a fabulous find and with thrifting often, we have learned when to jump on something and when to pause and think on it. It goes back to that Triple Love rule that I have- which I will be honest… I have not been sticking to as much as I should recently. So I thought what I would do is share some thrifting treasures we find, if we snapped them up or left them behind and also ask if you would bring it home and what would you pay.
Thrifting Treasures- Antique Velvet Chair
I often find the most random things at the thrifts that speak to me. This one was a fairly easy conversation being that it was pretty much just saying ‘hello- you know you love me.’ and I didn’t have to envision anything special for it. But I have brought home some oddities too and those will probably be considered ‘thrifting fails’.
Today, it is a 1930’s velvet chair that put the pep in my step the day I found it. I mean, is it even a question if you were out thrifting and saw this if would bring it home? 1930’s. Fringed. Velvet. I was pretty. much in love right away.

The good
I honestly was walking by minding my own ‘I don’t need any more chairs’ business when I saw it out of the corner of my eye. I will be truthful and say that I honestly probably could easily find a beautiful chair to bring home Every time we stop at the thrift stores. I am obsessed and it is bordering on chair hoarding at this point. But I simply have a soft spot for a beautiful chair. Wooden, Upholstered, ones with issues, they all just talk to me.

This wasn’t even on my radar- I do really try my best Not to bring a chair home every thrifting day but then there this one was. A perfect vintage mink silvery brown color. A lovely dainty size. Delicate pleating on the arms and channel back and rolled back details.

And then I saw the fringe. And under the fringe? Carved fluted wood legs. I pulled it out from where it was tucked against the building (it is incredibly heavy) and turned it around to see the back and wouldn’t you know that of course, it was pretty from all angles.

The bad
Upon closer inspection, I could see there was some wear here and there in a couple of spots on the velvet but honestly, it isn’t really bad in my opinion- it didn’t take away from it for me. I likened the spots to well loved patina on wood and I was okay with it. It needs a bit of a cleaning and will admit that it probably has a few cobwebs under the frame.

The ugly
Well, not going to lie- there was no ugly here folks. I was pretty much loving it as it was and then I took a look at the price tag.

Thrifting Treasures- Dreamy Antique Velvety Goodness
So what would you pay for a chair like this one if you were so inclined?

This was marked $85. but was a Yellow tag which was 75% off that month. And it was also honors day which meant an extra % off as well. So this chair ended up being around $10.

I grabbed the tag and said SOLD even though I had no idea where it would land. I did however know that it would be a beautiful chair for photography (you know I love snapping photos of flowers on chairs!) and that I would find a perfect spot for all that fringed goodness.

What do you think- love it or leave it? Would you buy this chair?

Definitely a must have! Beautiful!
Love it! That piece would have went home with me in a new york minute! I even love the fabric. I know we’re okay with some wear on our vintage pieces but I wonder if that worn area could be repaired? Or I would just stain it to match so it was not seen. However, the wear can easily be overlooked because of everything else…Love the fabric, style, curves, pleats, fringe, and legs from description. I wish they still made furniture like your chair. Vintage furniture to me is so much better built and has so much gorgeous character.
I would have bought this in a flash if I still had my bigger house. But I have down-sizd and there is no room.
