Remember how I told you about that guest room that I painted a few years ago?
The one that I was in a big time hurry to get done so
I walked in and picked up a can of white right off the shelf
and quickly covered the walls with it before the guests arrived?
I walked in and picked up a can of white right off the shelf
and quickly covered the walls with it before the guests arrived?
Well, as I mentioned, that right-off-the-shelf white was never right.
This one had too much of a blue undertone to it, and the room never felt very warm and welcoming like I wanted it to feel for guests or for everyday.
So when I had the opportunity to take that somewhat chilly feeling room and turn it into a warm and welcoming space with Sherwin-Williams
I jumped on the chance to do a makeover.
Here is the space as it looked originally when we bought the house.
Dark knotty pine walls and ceiling and small old windows.
It truly felt so much like a cave.
It truly felt so much like a cave.
and after the quick make-do paint job
it was so much better with a coat of white (and new windows),
but not all that warm and welcoming yet.
Most of the time that we have lived here, this room has been somewhat like a catch all space;
we haven’t had guests that have stayed inside the house in the extra room that often.
But as it turns out my oldest son and his girlfriend were planning on moving back home and staying in this room for a month or two (my middle guy is currently in the guest cottage so no space there).
My oldest was in between places while moving to the beach and getting settled there
and yes, I am totally jealous in case you are wondering. 😉

So when Cassie and I were talking about the room, and about what they would and wouldn’t need in there, we both looked at those white walls and the plain sheer panels on the windows and decided it was a perfect time to freshen the space and add some warmth at the same time.
One of my favorite ways to change the feeling of a room or space is by using paint.
It’s a super easy way to lighten, brighten, darken, bring some color in or create a neutral backdrop.
Plus, its not a huge commitment – if you aren’t happy in a few years with the color
you don’t have to peel wallpaper – you simply paint over it.
Cassie thought something warm like a soft yellow or pink would be perfect- we think alike 🙂
We tried a couple colors in the Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer,
We tried a couple colors in the Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer,
the tool turns your comupter into a virtual design studio
which is an awesome way to get a sneak peek at what your space will look like with the colors you are considering.
We tried several options. A yellow, a soft gray, a taupe
and pink but ultimately decided on…
a barely blushing beauty called
SW #6336 Nearly Peach.
It’s warm. It’s welcoming. It’s restful and soft and simply pretty.
It is a perfect pale blush color that is not too pink, not too peach and not so loud that it overpowers a soft shabby room. Paired with white on the ceiling and trim- it is so lovely.
This barely blushing color was mixed into Sherwin-Williams
Emeraldâ„¢paint.
With Emeraldâ„¢ paint by Sherwin-Williams, you can give your walls the attention they deserve. It’s paint and primer in one with advanced stain-blocking technology so it hides stains and covers dark colors. So you get stunning color, a beautiful finish and an even appearance. Because there’s nothing too good for your walls.
On my walls, with the lighting we have and an abundance of windows and sunshine in this room-
this color reads a very, very pale barely blushing pink.
It is more like a white with a rosy undertone- exactly what I was looking for.
You can see a bit more color against the white headboard and in darker corners of the room
but overall- very soft and quiet.
You can also see the different tones and shades based on the amount of light and time of day.

I have to say finding the perfect pink that is not too sweet and childlike and is more a sophisticated and grown-up warm color is difficult- but this one is great.

In addition to the fresh coat of paint- this room got 3 sets of beautiful linen window curtains and a new white duvet set for the bed.
I also found a very old, very shabby white chest of drawers to use as a bedside chest.
It is old, circa 1900, redwood construction and wears paint that is big-time worn
so it was a perfect rustic addition to pair with the elegant chandelier.
Rustic and elegant- my favorite mix.
The vintage sconce on the wall was a flea find and is being re-wired
and the chandelier is a vintage metal chandelier that was found in a plastic grocery bag
in parts at a thrift store.
I love how the color in this room turned out
It is a perfect warm and welcoming in-between-places space for them to stay in.
The Color Visualizer was such a huge help in choosing the right color the first time
and that is a big time saver as well as money saver.
Not to mention that when I went into Sherwin-Williams to have the paint mixed
they were so helpful in pointing me in the right direction with choosing between the 3 soft colors.
You can find more inspiration and connect with Sherwin-Williams on Facebook,
and one of my favorite places to browse and save all that inspiration and colors they share is
on the Sherwin-Williams Pinterest page.

BEAUTIFUL makeover!!
My itty-bitty office; my refuge.
So beautiful! I love the combination of the purple lilacs with the brown velvet pillow. And the little distressed dresser under the window – darling! Sally @cottagefix
Love, love, love that room. I would so like to do my own bedroom. Thank you for all your wonderful posts. xx
Éven with the not so right tone it was perfection, and now even that much more perfect if that's possible.

Love your room–and Lilacs are such a sweet scented addition to any room–I just love them! We need to paint our TV room–it is looking really dated…
I am ready to make over a downstairs bedroom into a guest room/sewing/craft room. Last fall we completed a bathroom that connects to the bedroom, so I am anxious to complete that room too. My painter used Sherwin-Williams paint on my outside house trim, and I used it in the bathroom and loved it!
Gorgeous Courtney! I am always in awe over your projects.
Courtney, I love the color you and Cassie chose. It's so soothing.

Your room looks great! I would paint the guest bedroom.
Beautiful room! I would paint my spare bedroom.
I would love to repaint my dining room! Right now it is ohhhh soooo lovely knotty pine wood *(the real stuff), and it really needs help. And so do I! My hubby loves it as is…….I do not! He has won for thirty five years of looking at it, and now I feel it is my turn! So maybe, just maybe, I'll win! (And he can paint!!!) Nanny
Love the wall color! Looking for a similar feel when I repaint my bedroom (hint hint)
the room looks fabulous! I have a set of vintage French bedroom furniture (that I purchased from Craigs list) I need to re-paint and I would love to win this giveaway 🙂

I would make over my master bathroom…."finish" what I started a while back 🙂
What room would I makeover? Definitely my bathroom. It is a cotton candy pinkish color and I just do not care for it.
I tweeted. https://twitter.com/MissHeather522/status/473681817069834241
I love these curtains. I would paint the master bedroom, I think in a very pale grey.
My guest room needs a coat of paint!
My daughter has had some serious health issues & a room redo would be very nice for her. She is a sweet young women who has been through alot, and has more to face, but doesn't complain about it. Everyone loves her & her upbeat, sweet personality 🙂
love the color! I would love to use a similar color for my living room and dining room.
love it. I might try a similar color for my living room and dining area.
Love Love Love the makeover! The color is like a rose petal blush.
I'm trying to pick paint right now for my living room. 10 years of a perfect capuchino color and looking for a dusky greay. I think I'll try the Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer.
Love love love the makeover! The color is a perfect rose petal blush.
I am just now looking for a color to repaint my living room. Going from a cappuccino to a dark brownish gray.
I will definitely use the Sherwin -Williams Color Visualizer.
Amazing what a coat of paint can do. My sewing studio is next on my painting makeover list. I always use SW paint, it's the best.
I will have to try the visualizer. I love the new bedside chest. It's all so pretty.
I would love to win, and re-do my bedroom! I love Sherwin Williams!
I would iove to re-do my somewhat dated entry with SW Emerald. Thank you for the opportunity!
Oh happy day! My bedroom would love to win!
I always use SW paint, it's the best. It's amazing what a coat of paint can do to change the mood of a room.
I love your "rustic and elegant" style, Courtney. My husband says that all of the rooms in our house are 6" smaller than when we moved in because I paint them so often 😉 But I would LOVE to win and would repaint my entry, with a dramatic color addition on the front door! (Shhhh, don't tell my husband.)
I tweeted, too!

My kirchen – down comes the wallpaper and then a happy wall color
I grew up a Cassie! It was my Great-Grandmother's name. I would paint my everything room. I'd love to see how slight grey undertones would work in a white. I love the peach blush color you came up with!
My kitchen is in desperate need of painting. It has Sherwin Williams paint on it from 15 years ago and it's held up extremely well, but it's time to freshen it up with a new color.
Beautiful!
Tina!
I need to makeover my living room because there is no paint or pictures on the walls. Winning this gift card would help buy quality paint!!
My bedroom needs a makeover the most. Every wall in our home is Sherwin Williams (Dover White). I love the color but it is time for a small change. I think it would be like getting a haircut for me. I have to go slow. So trying color visualizer is a great idea. I love your guest room. Sandy
I am in love with that wooden bed tray. Are you going to give a tutorial on it? As always, your photos and creativity is stunning but my eyes fell in love with the bed tray.
I'd make over our sons room. It needs a paint job badly. It needed a paint job when we first moved in and it just keeps getting moved to the bottom of the list. Please help!
Love your make-over! Beautiful! My daughter and I have been dreaming of making our workout room (extra bedroom) more spa-like. Thanks for the inspiration!

Definitely my son's room!
My master bedroom needs new paint desperately!
A fantastic result. This room certainly looks warm and inviting now. The French style furniture and rustic additions, teamed with the gorgeous cluster of mirrors, chandelier and fresh flowers make this space charming. I love the little bed tray too. Perfection :O)
I would love to win some paint since every room in my house needs to be painted. I would start with the living room. It has been for the past 17 years a pale yellow ochre. I'm ready for something NEW! Jo @ Let's Face the Music
We are re-painting our entire house. This would be great!
My spare bedroom/computer room. So trying to get it together as a functioning room so my niece can come stay the summer.
I would repaint the master or the shed.
Really beautiful, Courtney! I would love to make over our family room.
Incredible makeover. The room is exquisite. I think the brown velvet pillow with it all is just too perfect for words.
Cindy
Lovely room.
I remember painting paneling before…LOTS of it as a young married in an older home. What a difference paint can make! I think I'd paint my kitchen if I had some paint right now. I like the color ( a creamy shade with a touch of yellow ) but it doesn't take long for a kitchen to require a fresh coat and mine's about 2 years old now.
Oh yes you bring a new level to the use of linen ! I love your fresh take on this wonderful Farm Style !
This turned out just GORGEOUS!!! your kids will feel very restful and relaxed in such a charming room!!! Love the walls and drapes!! I SOOOOoooo need to re-paint my kitchen. I used the WRONG color and just kept going, thinking it would get better, and NO it never did! I actually bought fairly expensive Valspar paint, so it is painful that it looks so bad, and I just haven't had a budget for repainting. I have tried moving around some different accessories to try and make it blend better, but lets face it, there are only so may things you can put in a kitchen! What I was trying for is a sort of pale, grayish, dusky purple, but what I have is RADIANT Orchid, and not in a good way, LOL!!! I keep telling myself it IS the official color of 2014, but NO….it just isn't! It's too dark, too purple, and makes my cabinets and trim look straight up orange! I wish I had used that Color Visualizer tool, and I sure will next time around!!
Dear Courtney,
Your taste is impeccable. Always fresh and with a touch of the well loved worn with the sparkle of the juxtaposed of gleaming crystal and flowers. The SW paint that you chose is perfect for the room. Also…love, love the way the linen curtains look.
**…Could you kindly please share where you were able to find or purchase them from? I need to do a similar treatment! 😉
Cheers! Phylies
I would paint my upstairs bathroom, the colors are too dark for the space so I would like to paint it a pale green

I just bought my first home and will be moving into it the first of July and I love this color for my guest room or maybe mine.

The master bedroom!!!
Looks beautiful Courtney!
Absolutely love your guest bedroom makeover! Just stunning!
I painted my new 700 sq.ft. cottage (accessory dwelling unit/ADU) in Nearly Peach. I love it. It's the perfect soft background for shabby chic decor and vintage pink florals. I love your site–so inspiring.
