Vintage Cottage Kitchen- Farmhouse Sink & Island Reveal

It has been a busy couple of months over here working on various projects that never seem to end. You know how it goes- one fix tends to lead to another and another and so on.

The cottage kitchen has been slowly being revamped a bit. While we decided to keep the authentic and original character of the old cupboard on the wall- we did change a few other things like the countertops, sink area and the island.

Guest Cottage Kitchen Before

I shared the butcher block countertops reveal already- and they are looking just as good as the day they were installed. I love the natural touch they bring to the kitchen- and how much lighter than look than the granite we had out here before. You can see more in the post HERE

Farmhouse Island

I am obsessed with this farmhouse island that just arrived recently. It has a beautiful patina, chunky construction and it is the perfect size for this narrow space.

It has dings and dents and old wood grain charm- I absolutely love how it is not perfect in appearance- which brings so much warmth to the space.

Aside from the chunky boards and legs- I also love that is petite and more narrow in size than a traditional table would be.

This table has a weathered matte finish to it that also brings an aged feeling- though it is brand new. You can find it HERE

The Farmhouse Trough Sink

Another day – another obsession. I am definitely obsessed with this sink. You might remember that I had found one on craigslist and when I went to go look at it- they had more than one and I brought home two of them.

The first one went into the cottage bathroom- you can see more of that post here.

And the second sink landed right here in the kitchen. You might remember the BEFORE- it was a chunky cupboard with a sink – standard kitchen cabinet stock size and style.

We removed the old cupboard and sink area and we even moved the window about 10″ to accommodate the higher back on this gorgeous sink.

This area served a purpose but felt like it didn’t really fit the vintage age of the cottage before. This antique sink brought a whole lot of charm and appeal to this 80 year old space and mingles perfectly with the original beaded board glass cupboard and butcher block counters.

As you can see- I haven’t quite finished this cutie up just yet- it has a big old paint chip on the front and I do need to repaint it. I am using an enamel type paint to keep the old feeling while cleaning it up- and will share more about that process along with how we cleaned the rust stains out of the sink retrofitting pipes and the faucet install and how fun that was soon.

I think the faucet issues was one of this make or break things with this sink. I didn’t realize just how hard it would be to find faucets that fit an old sink like this one- with old holes you had to line up perfectly, and with the right finish, depth and everything else.

The Vintage Style Refrigerator

Yes indeed- this refrigerator is brand new. I love the style of it and how it brings that retro vintage feeling to this space- and I love the price point for a look that is quite similar to other expensive retro refrigerators. We are actually considering replacing the large refrigerator we have in the house with a smaller one like this because we love the look of it and that it is so energy efficient as well. We have a few more updates out here- isn’t that always the case? We will likely be updating the range – as well as finishing up the dining area and sink area. My daughter and her fiancé are staying in the cottage currently so we will be back at finishing up the room soon. And also stay tuned for this kitchen decorated for autumn coming your way very soon.
