The weekend view is a quiet and stormy one this week.
Rain, Rain, Rain…again
It is crazy how much rain we have gotten in California in the past couple of weeks. Last week, one of our cedar trees fell during the wind gusts and took out the power and internet lines. We were quite popular with the neighbors. Thankfully, no one was hurt and they got the power back on and sent a crew to cut down the other part of the tree that was threatening to take out others right away.
Moving Slow
I jammed up my shoulder during the power outage and it really slowed me down last week- thankfully several days of babying it and it is much better than it was. But that slow down was also almost reflective of my mood this past week too. I don’t always remember right away that January is always a time of slowing down in some ways. Maybe because usually all those goals and resolutions can make you feel like you should hit the floor running. But after the busy of the holiday season and wrapping up year end projects -I think January is a good time to spend a bit more time being ‘quiet’ and just turning more to being in tuned with yourself.
Nurturing
With my shoulder issue came adding a 1/2 cup of epsom salt to my bath each night to help reduce the soreness and loosen it up. If you haven’t ever tried Epsom salts in a tub- they are amazing. I don’t use them daily but like to soak with them at least once a week. I know this is a decorating blog but will share a bit more about skincare & bath products- especially for winter when it seems we need them even more.
Walking
Along with getting in more nurturing soaks, we have a goal to get in a whole lot more walking and hiking this year. My oldest son got me a Fitbit for Christmas so that I can track all the things. So I am now obsessed with how my sleep is everyday to how many miles we log each week. Though, all the stormy weather has not been helpful in supporting our goals- we managed to get in between 3.5 to 6.0 miles 6 days last week so that is something to consider a win.
It’s a …
Remember how I told you last week that I didn’t know if the adorable naked neck silkie I shared with you was a boy or a girl? Confirmation that it is a HE – by him crowing. I actually love roosters- they are such sweet birds and he is a sweet one for sure so it doesn’t surprise me. I just need a good boy name for him now.
Not sure yet what our other showgirl silkie frizzle is yet-it might be a girl- but I will keep you posted.
And for those who wanted a photo of the house chickens – here they are just outside their cage standing there and staring at the Christmas Tree. It was so cute. The grandma -who is the larger chicken- is mostly blind, so we think she was maybe a little mesmerized by the twinkles on the tree. Tiny – the smaller frizzled chicken- was looking at me curious as to what I was doing taking a video of them (this is a screenshot) These two have since moved back out to the barn-both of them are healed and doing well.
Happy Weekend everyone.

Maybe name him rupert. Nobody in the neighborhood will use that name. He looks like a rupert.
