Welcome to the weekend view.

Snow, snow and more snow
Honestly, we have never seen this much snow at our house in California. Not anywhere even remotely close. And we have lived in Montana and Minnesota and I don’t think we have seen this much snow fall at one time in either of those places also. The storms just keep rolling through and dropping ski resort level snow down to low elevations- including the beach, wine country and Southern California. We have a lot of trees down on the property and no power but so far our farm animals, house and cottage are all okay thankfully.

We have been going back to the house daily to make sure the animals have fresh food and water. We got to the house and were walking up past my husbands truck and towards the front door when we heard a loud crack and a third of an old growth oak tree that was just on the other side of the truck fell and landed right where we had just walked 5 seconds earlier. We truly feel that someone was watching over us in that moment and has been watching over our home and creatures.

Guest Cottage
We have some unusual guests staying in the guest cottage.

The goats and our flock of silkie chickens are living in the cottage until the storms stop. They were forecasting that crazy amount of snow for our area and we knew from last years storm that took out so many trees- that trees could fall again. The barn is safe inside-but this was the covered chicken coop that collapsed after the first day of heavy snow.

There is also a big tree that fell just behind the barn and is blocking the back door also. So they are much safer being inside the cottage for now and they don’t seem to mind their new place.
About 3-4 feet

Seriously? We live in California at an elevation where it should be rain- not snow. I cannot even believe how much snow is on the ground already and- currently snowing again for the next several days and they are expecting it to be low snow again. This is the second year in a row that we have had crazy snow storms at low elevations. Last year, many flowers like the wisteria, camellia and even 10 year old roses didn’t bloom at all because of the cold from the snow. Hopefully, we will get some rain to melt the snow quickly. This photo is from the new snow After my husband already had shoveled it off the roof. The next couple days added this much snow back. Oy vey.

I know that the storms were moving on out of California and across the U.S.- hoping that you all stay safe and don’t have damage from the weather. Stay warm friends!
Grand Baby Snuggles
A big bonus in the chaos this past week? We have been staying in the area close to where our sons and their families live and so, we have had dinner with them several times and enjoyed all kinds of grand baby snuggles daily!

I babysat Enzo the other day while his parents got some work done.

And painted with Juliette and cuddled Jionni on repeat (and look at that little grin!)

Coming your way
Favorite things – like vintage style rugs, English cottage style and more. I am also shopping marketplace for a couple new elements for the attic room makeover and will share some ideas with a mood board.
Happy Sunday all.
Oh, my, gosh…seeing this…through your eyes…there are no words.. There has to be…will be an end. franki
Hi Courtney, Thank Goodness Y’All and the Animals are alright, You received a Snow Fall like what we get normally get here in the Pan-Handle of Oklahoma. We had a Couple of inches of Snow so far. It’s so Dry. Your Grand children are so precious . Before You know it, they will be trying to walk and run. Babies grow up just too quickly. Courtney, I’am keeping You and Your Family in my Thoughts and Prayers. Laters, MJ
all of those poor downed full growth trees , don’t forget to leave some trunks and stumps for the goats to play in and on !!!
Hello Courtney, my goodness, your view is very similar to ours here in No. Nevada. We are close to the sierra mountains and no stop to the snow falling. Our trees are in bad shape, we have no place to put the SHOVELed snow and if we do get out, the grocery stores are bare. But that water is a welcome to all of us.
Stay safe, Nancy
Yikes, stay safe❤️
Oh my…. this is unreal for California like you said!! Yes, GOD was there when that tree fell! Glad y’all are safe and the animals. Those grandbabies are growing fast. Prayers for everything.
Sending hugs and prayers Courtney to you and your family. What a mess! I hope you get power back soon there is nothing worse, unless a tree falls on the house. Take care best you can and those babies are too cute.

Quite an unusual winter for all of us in No. Cal. Spring will be full of new planting ideas, tree removal, and probably a new planting zone. Stay safe, and enjoy those little ones.
