It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the year!
I am so excited to start sharing alllll the beautiful Christmas magic that is appearing around the house this year.
I usually share the house in larger chunks and tours with the whole house dressed for Christmas or the whole house twinkling by candlelight. But this year, I am doing things a little different and sharing a little bit all season long.
I really want to share each room and styling in more detail rather than all together. The holiday season is always full of magic and I want to simply soak up & enjoy it all as much and for as long as I can get away with this year! Because- 2020 folks. I have heard from many of you that you are feeling the same – I think we all need that good feeling Christmas magic even more than usual. So – I have more than the usual amount of holiday shares planned to be coming your way. 🙂 And today I am SO excited to start with the 12 Trees of Christmas!
All About Inspiration
This series is all about inspiration. Different trees, different color palettes, different looks and ideas to hopefully inspire You and your beautiful tree this year.
And so today ‘On the First Day of Christmas…’ we are starting with one of my absolute favorite looks: A frosted tree full of gorgeous layers of beautiful pinks.
I just shared the frosted tree I put up in our bedroom that has a very similar look to this one.
The bedroom tree is the Frosted Yukon Spruce– a heavy flock chunky tree. For the bedroom tree – I used a box full of vintage fuchsia ornaments but also incorporated shades of vintage gold, dusty mauve and silver baubles for a more colorful vintage look. It has a bit more going on with the golds and silvers so it is a slightly different look and feel than the one I am sharing today. But so many of you have asked for more details on this look- so here you go.
Start with a favorite color palette
Frosted trees are some of my absolute favorite looks and are always on repeat over here. And one of the things I love about them is that they really let those ornaments shine and do the talking. That frosty background lets even the softest of colors take center stage- and if you bring out those bold and beautiful ones? They really pop.
This tree was set up out in the cottage and is a Frosted Fraser Fir. This is a more narrow and traditional style of tree- with a dusting of sugar sprinkle. While I usually go soft and subtle with a frosted tree- I was working on a special project during the summer that was all about different looks- and so you will see this tree with 3 completely different looks in this series.
For this tree- it was a pink & white palette- with vintage & new mixed together for a cohesive and interesting look.
When doing a mostly monochromatic look on a tree- choose several shades of the same color or from the same family. For example- this tree has vintage fuchsia and old mottled blush ornaments – along with rose and creamy pearly whites that are new to add a bit of balance.
Several ornament sizes
Have you ever noticed what one of the things is that makes a ‘designer’ Christmas tree really stand out? It has to do with ornament sizes and placement.
Using several sizes and finishes in ornaments to create layers of lovely is key. From shiny to matte to mercury glass- and from mini to large in size. The various sizes and finishes really set off the snowy branches- and also help make the tree feel much more ‘collected’ over the years.
Layer & layer- and then layer some more
It is All about the layers with this look. Anytime you have a monochromatic look- layers are your friend. Even when the colors are the same and very simple and sweet- the various ornament sizes are absolutely dazzling when they are layered on the branches of the tree.
Nestle those larger ornaments into the branches and bring out the dainty & dangly ones to the edges of the tips. And keep on layering until you get the look you love.
A tree topper that compliments
You might have noticed that I don’t always use a tree topper on my trees. I like the shape and style of the top of a tree just as much. But sometimes- you find a perfect topper to fit the look. I love this capiz star because it really echoes the vintage feeling and the pearly warm look of the ornaments.

Yes, yes, yes, we do need all of the beauty and magic of Christmas this year. That tree is lovely, I am a fan of frazier fir they are such great trees. I have been adding a fresh tree the past few years and I try to always get a frazier fir.

I love a pretty christmas tree
which is YOUR FAVORITE, NON FLOCKED TREE FROM balsam hill? Excuse the caps, i cant seem to get them to revert to smaLl letters.
It depends on what look you like I think- but some of my favorites are: Silverado Slim, Brewer Spruce, Noble Fir and European Fir. All have different looks- so hopefully one of those looks will fit your ideal tree color or style wise and help give you some ideas!
I love that you are showcasing 12 different looks, Courtney–we need Christmas for a long time this year after all the sadness aound the world. I will start my Christmas decorating the morning after Thanksgiving and hope to get it all done within a few days. Knowing me, everything will stay out until mid-January or later–I just hate taking down all the pretty things. Hugs!
